Our Parish Mission Statement The Parish of St. John Bosco is a multi-cultural, multi-lingual Catholic Faith community that proclaims Jesus Christ. In the spirit of St. John Bosco, we do this by being a Home that welcomes all especially the young and the poor; a School that prepares for life through religious, educational and social services; a Parish that evangelizes through Word & Sacrament, Worship and Faith Formation; a Playground where lasting friendship and relationships are formed and developed through recreational and social opportunities.
From the Desk of Fr. Pat
Desde el Escritorio de P. Pat
Recently, Fr. John and I were watching the news on TV on were commenting on the loss of moral values we are witnessing in our country. It appears, at times, that we have completely lost our moral compass and for many of us, we shake our heads in disbelief— never imagining that some things we are seeing in the United States today could ever happen in our nation. At one point, Fr. John turned to me and said: “if we would just follow the Ten Commandments so many of our problems would be solved!” He is right! James Madison, our fourth president and the “Father of the Constitution” wrote the following words which should cause all of us to pause and reflect: “we have staked the whole of our political institution upon the capacity of mankind for self-government; upon the capacity of each and all of us to govern ourselves, to control ourselves, to sustain ourselves according to the Ten Commandments of God.” Our democracy works only if we have God and His Commandments in the equation! I believe we see ourselves self-destructing because we have removed God from our public life and so our democratic principles have no roots! Our independence calls for respecting the inalienable right to life but we find ourselves celebrating laws the boarder on and in some cases accept infanticide; we have forgotten those simple, clear, direct four words: Thou shalt not kill! We say we want equal opportunity and fairness for all and then use every kind of deception to get our kids into universities by any means possible (allowing the end to justify the means!) because we have put aside those four words that say Thou shalt not steal! We justify saying anything we want about someone we disagree with, seeking to ruin their reputation and we repeat a lie often enough in the hope that it will become a truth and so we mock those six powerful words that say Thou shalt not bear false witness! And the list can go on and on and on. We want to know what is wrong with American society and American politics today? We need to reflect on the words of President Madison, and the words of President Washington before him who warned us “religion and morality were the indispensables pillars of democracy”. Lent is a time to look into ourselves and challenge ourselves and our way of Christian living. I wonder how many of us can repeat the Ten Commandments? I wonder how many of us refer to the Ten Commandments in the every day decisions we are called to make? I wonder how many of our young people see the Ten Commandments lived out in their families and are taught them by their parents? Certainly our young people witness the Ten Commandments being totally ignored by secular society and by so many who claim to follow them and do not! It is sad. We live in a world growing sadder each day— a world searching for happiness in all the wrong places. Meanwhile, God has given us the blue print for human happiness: the Ten Commandments. Those Commandments were written in our hearts before they were written in stone. In these couple of weeks left in Lent, let’s look into our hearts and re-discover the joy that comes from living the Ten Commandments! God bless you!

Ostatnio ksiądz Jan i ja oglądaliśmy wiadomości telewizyjne. Miał on absolutną rację . James Madison , nasz czwarty prezydent, zwany też ojcem konstytucji napisał: Cała nasza struktura polityczna, nasz rząd i społeczeństwo funkcjonują w oparciu o dziesięć przykazań Bożych. Demokracja przewodzi, jeśli mamy Boga i dekalog w naszych sercach. Spójrzmy we własne serca i odkryjmy na nowo radość z Bożych przykazań. Z Bożym błogosławieństwem!

In today’s Gospel reading we hear about a woman who is brought before Jesus because she has sinned. According to the Law of Moses the woman should be stoned. But Jesus has a better idea. He helps the people see that the woman is not the only sinner in the crowd. This causes everyone to leave. Jesus is left standing alone with the woman. Jesus gives the woman the gift of a new start. After her experience with Jesus she is reconciled to God, to her community and to herself. The story in the Gospel today shows us that God forgives our sins and loves us unconditionally. When we make a wrong choice, we too are given a new start. God Bless You! Reflections of the Week: How can you celebrate God’s forgiveness and unconditional love? How does the season of Lent help you to start new? THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR PRAYERS FOR OUR PARISH CHILDREN WHO RECEIVED JESUS’ LOVE AND MERCY IN THE SACRAMANT OF RECONCILIATION ON THURSDAY, MARCH 28TH.
