From the Desk of Fr. Pat
Desde el Escritorio de P. Pat
This past week has been a week filled with blessings for our parish family! Last Saturday, January 26th, we had our Youth Rally, celebrating the feast of Don Bosco with over 250 young people! It was amazing to witness and to be a part of! Many thanks to Fr. Manny and to the extraordinary team of persons he put together from so many different groups of our parish! It was truly a parish effort reaching out to so many young people! I could not help but think of the prayer we say every Sunday at all our Masses: “…that we may be a parish ready to serve Christ in the young.” Truly, we gave witness to that last Saturday! Thank you! On Sunday, we celebrated the public feast of Don Bosco, highlighted by our children in Corpus Christi Holy Rosary School animating both our 9am and 11am Masses. Again, I could not help but think of Don Bosco smiling as he saw so many young people growing closer to Jesus through the celebration of his feast! Thank you to the Salesian Sisters, Ms. McDermott, and all at the school who worked with the children to make it happen! Thank you, too, to DeFErente, our young choir, for the music at the 11am Mass! You are both a different and a special group! Then on Thursday, the feast itself, we had the grace of welcoming home our Regional from Rome, Fr. Timothy Ploch, SDB! We celebrated a beautiful, bilingual Mass in the evening and then gave Fr. Tim a simple but warm welcome celebration. He will be with us in the parish until February 5th. This is an extraordinary moment of grace for entire the parish because, at this visit, Fr. Tim comes in the name of the Rector Major, Fr. Angel, the tenth successor of Don Bosco. In a special way, the Extraordinary Visitation is an expression of the presence of Don Bosco himself among us! We are blessed! Today, the Church also marks the World Day of Prayer for Consecrated Life. The Church asks us to pray for religious men and women—religious priests, brothers, and sisters. Women and men who, hearing the call of Christ and following it, have made the radical response to live in community, following Christ in poverty, chastity, and obedience according to the charism of their foundresses and founders. Our parish is indeed blessed! We have within our parish three religious communities: the Franciscan Sisters of the Atonement, the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (Salesian Sisters), and the Salesians of Don Bosco. Today, as the Church invites us to pray for all religious, I want to invite you to pray in a special way for the religious communities in our parish, that we may be true to our call to holiness of life and that we may experience an increase in vocations to our religious congregations. After a week like this, there is a need to thank God for the gift our patron, Don Bosco, is to the Church and to the young and to our parish in particular! God bless you!

In today’s Gospel Jesus tries to tell the people that he was sent by God. The people listen to Jesus but they are unable to believe what he has to say. Jesus is rejected in his hometown. This Gospel reveals that sometimes it is difficult to do what is right. Jesus spoke the truth even when the people did not accept what he had to say. Jesus was brave and he went on his way continuing to do God’s work. As children of God and followers of Christ we are called to do what is right even when it is difficult. This is the baptismal call of the prophet. And we can rely on God to give us strength. Questions for this week: What does it mean to live as a child of God? Who helps you to live as a child of God? God bless you! Important Date Change: First Penance Parent Meeting is Wednesday, February 13th at 6:30pm in Corpus Christi Cafeteria (English) and Corpus Christi Church (Spanish).

Youth Rally 2019!! (Port Chester, NY. – January 26) – As part of our Parish Celebration of the Feast of Saint John Bosco, 200 of our parish young people preparing for confirmation, other youth ministry young adults and many of our parishioners participated in a Youth Rally led by Father Manny Gallo, SDB and Director of our Youth Ministry. This was our second Youth Rally for our Parish! The themes of the day were “Holiness For You Too” (John 15:11) and our 2019 Strenna) and “You are God’s Masterpiece” (Ephesians 2:10). Our Salesian Cooperators setup and served breakfast and lunch. And throughout the day long retreat, our youth listened to heartfelt testimonies and talks on facing their challenges and reaching our call to Holiness. Dalton a young Salesian and former student of Fr. Manny delivered a beautiful testimony of living and witnessing in the spirit. We were also privileged to have three music ministry bands, Nueva Vida, Misioneros de Tira La Red and San Michael the Arch Angel from Maryland, singing songs of praise and worship throughout the day. During Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, we had the opportunity for confession, and this was a GRACE we received as so many of our young people made a good confession! Father Steve Ryan, SDB Vice Provincial, ended the day with a beautiful Mass for our young people letting them know that they are indeed called to Holiness and that we have Don Bosco as our model and patron saint. Don Bosco who shared with our Salesian Family the message he received from our Blessed Mother; Be Bold, Be Humble and Be Courageous in living and teaching your faith! Our Confirmation Candidates receive their sacrament on May 4, 2019. Please pray for our Confirmation Candidates, their Sponsors and family as they continue to prepare their hearts to be receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit. God Bless You!
