Re:Follow-Up to the Eventson Friday,September7 I want to thank parents and community members for the number of e-mails,phone calls, and in-person conversationscomplimenting the students, stab. and administration in how the lockdown was hand[ed and communicated last Friday. ]n addition to the comp]iments, arecurring question posed was,"How did one (1)of the District's contractors have accessto the building?" With the many projects and maintenancehappening throughout the District over the years, contractors, after completing a background check, were given a key fob (an electronic key), which would allow them accessto the buildings to complete their contracted work. In the summer of 2018,while reviewing safetyprocedures, it was determined by District Office that each contractor had to check into the Main Office of each building prior to entering. Each contractor was notified of this change in policy, and due to a lapse in judgment of one (1) of the contractors, the events on Friday,September7occurred. As a result, all contractors' fobs havebeen deactivated and were contacted asto why.
I am well awarethere are a number of stories on social media about other, and, frankly, more horrific reasonsasto why the lockdown was called, but that is what they are: stories. As the building and district administration reflect on Friday's events, we will be evaluating the procedures worked on between the District Ofhce and law enforcement to see what can be done diHerently in implementing alockdown and communicating with stakeholders. Your feedbackis and has been appreciated.
I would be remiss to not againthank and acknowledge the efforts of the stan. building administration, Elmwood Park and River GrovePoliceDepartments, and the students for how they all conducted themselvesduring this lockdown. If you have questions, concerns and/or comments, please forward them to me at
[email protected] or 708-583-5831. Sincer#qy
