Thank you for voting in the February school levy election. We appreciate our local taxpayers! Please review the district web home page. We continue to add more information for the community as well as our families. Our web site continues to be a work in progress. Please contact Tony Silver ([email protected]) if you have any suggestions for improving the district web site or information that you would like to see. The district web site address is: http://www.uniongapschool.org/ We will soon be getting ready for Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences. Please make sure that you register for a conference online at a time/day convenient for you. Look for notifications via the website and ClassDojo when online registration opens in the near future. After conferences, Spring Break is just around the corner! Following Spring Break is state testing time which will be taking us to the end of the school year. The annual testing season is almost upon us! The Grades 3-8 Smarter Balanced Assessment (SBA) is just around the corner. KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

INSCRIPCIÓN PARA EL KINDER

Union Gap School will begin registering students for kindergarten for the 2018-2019 school year starting March 19, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Registration will be ongoing for the remainder of this school year. According to state law, a child must be 5 years of age on or before August 31, to be eligible for kindergarten. You need to bring the following documents with you when you enroll your child as they are all required: • Birth Certificate, or other approved document, verifying child's age • Immunization Record – please be sure your child is current with their immunizations. • 2 pieces of Proof of Residence (mortgage/rental agreement and current light bill, cable bill or land line telephone bill) If you have any questions about registration, call Union Gap School's main office at 248-3966.

Vaccination requirements: 5th Graders, please note!

A TDap vaccine is required for all 6th graders. Some of you may have already received the TDap vaccine (it can be given any time after age 7). If you haven’t received it yet, you can get it now so you will be all set to enter 6th grade. Your clinic or a pharmacy will help you get the vaccine. After you get the shot, bring the shot record to the school office. If you have any questions, please call the nurse at 248-3966, ext. 311.

OUR AMERICAN FLAG

In Ms. Kangas’ Social Studies class, our th graders have been learning a Union Gap 4 lot about the history of our country and our national symbols. They learned that our American flag has not always looked like it looks now! As our country has grown and changed, so has our flag. On February 21st, a group of volunteers from our local VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars) visited our school. They presented each of the 27 different American Flags our country has flown over time. Students and staff were fascinated with the changes our country’s flag has gone through and learned new historical details about each one. We appreciate the VFW, our veterans, and their willingness to visit Union Gap School.





NUESTRA BANDERA AMERICANA En la clase de Estudios Sociales de la Sra. to grado de Kangas, nuestros estudiantes de 4 Union Gap han estado aprendiendo mucho sobre la historia de nuestro país y nuestros símbolos nacionales. ¡Ellos aprendieron que nuestra bandera Americana no siempre se ha visto como se ve ahora! Mientras nuestro país ha crecido y cambiado, también lo ha hecho nuestra bandera. El 21 de febrero, un grupo de voluntarios de nuestro VFW (Veteranos de Guerras Extranjeras) local visito nuestra escuela. Ellos presentaron cada una de las 27 diferentes Banderas Americanas que nuestro país ha volado con el tiempo. Los estudiantes y personal estaban facinados con los cambios por los cuales ha pasado la bandera de nuestro país, y aprendieron nuevos detalles históricos sobre cada uno. Apreciamos al VFW, nuestros veteranos, y su dispocision para visitar la Escuela Union Gap. 11
