AUGUST 2016 1
WELCOME On behalf of the Organizing Committee of the Pan American and Parapan American Games (COPAL) we welcome you to Casa Lima 2019. We have chosen the Olympic Games in Rio as the kickoff point because today, and for the next three years, South America is at the heart of high performance multi-sport events. It is very important for us to join you in this beautiful city where the best athletes and top-level personalities have convened. We want you to know how Lima has been preparing for the Pan American and Parapan American Games in organization, sports and infrastructure. With 1,250 million dollars invested, Lima 2019 will leave us with an important legacy. This experience will enable us to contribute, replicate and innovate everything we are learning in future sports events in coordination with you, our peers and the Pan American Sports Organization. Today we can tell you this dream begins to come true with much effort, dedication and hard work. We know that this will be a milestone in Peruvian sports and we are confident that Lima 2019 will be an unforgettable event for athletes, officials and directors who will be attending our Games.
Sincerely, Luis Salazar COPAL President

LIMA Named the City of Kings by its Spanish founders in 1535, Lima became the most important city of colonial America. Many churches, convents and houses still retain their poise in the Historic Center. Lima, a coastal city, is equally modern, fun and above all, gourmet. Its restaurants, both traditional and fusion restaurants, make a visit become a delight for the senses. Callao, Lima’s great port, also has architectural and natural treasures.

SURF For the first time in the history of the Pan American Games, the PASO General Assembly held in Toronto in July this year, surfing was included as an official discipline in the Pan American Games Lima 2019. This decision is a recognition of the significant development of the sport in the continent. Peru has had major achievements in this sport. The venue chosen for the competition is Playa Punta Rocas, located 40 km south of Lima that has hosted world championships since 1965. Surfing is on the shortlist of 8 sports being evaluated for inclusion in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics..
