Jesus told us: "Do not credit do you have? Because even judge, and you will not be judged." Yes, King Saul made others because God will be as severe life very miserable for David, but that with us as we are with others. Woe to us was not a valid reason to take the justice of God into his own hands. While David would respond to God for his actions, King Saul would also respond to God for his action. And as David forgave King Saul for the evil he did to him, God forgave David for the evils he had committed during his life. "the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you." Brothers and sisters, let us now consider how this spiritual law is applied in our Christian lives: Having received the right to life, do we have the right to encourage or participate in an abortion? In doing so, will not God judge us as murderers? How do we judge the poor, the unemployed, those who receive social assistance, the minority groups that are discriminated

if we do not control our minds, our hearts and our actions.

W

alking together as brothers and sisters:

My brothers and sisters, this week, let us search our hearts to determine if our minds and our tongues are sharing in holy things that make us worthy to be called children of God. Do we have spiritual minds and tongues or worldly minds and tongues? Is there a need to purify ourselves with the grace of God through sincere repentance and the Sacrament of Confession? Let's reflect on these things. Let's together strive to embrace the motto: "Do not judge, and you will not be judged." Fr. José Gerardo Alberto, MSpS

REFLEXION del

M

P. Gerardo Alberto, MSpS

A WAITING HARVEST

Vocation Awareness

The Three Degrees of the Holy Orders When I was a seminarian back in 1989, I remember attending a meeting with the bishop and all of the Savannah seminarians at the end of the summer. Each of us, in turn, described what we had done during our summer assignments. One seminarian, who was a transitional deacon, told this story. “One night, I was in the rectory and it was very late, around midnight. The pastor was out of town on his day off and I was the only one there. The phone rang and it was the hospital calling. There was a medical emergency; a woman was very close to death and the family wanted a priest to come and offer the sacrament of Anointing and to help her prepare for death. I tried to call two other priests in the area but neither of the them would answer the phone. So I just went over to the hospital and anointed her myself.

Deacons, priest and bishops make up the three degrees of the sacraments of the Holy orders and they are each empowered to certain actions. All three are received by ordination, but only the bishop has the fullness of the sacrament. Deacons are empowered and entitled to proclaim the gospel at Mass, preach the homily, baptize and witness marriages. Priests can do all of those things, but they also can celebrate the Mass, forgive sins in the sacrament of Confessions and administer the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, since it also forgives sins. To attempt to celebrate Anointing of the Sick for the lady who was dying-giving the family the impression that she had received this sacrament— was a very serious pastoral error, in spite of that seminarian’s good intentions.

On hearing this the bishop gasped. He said pointedly, “You can’t do that.” The seminarian replied, “I know bishop, but I’m telling you that I did do it.” The bishop said, “and I’m telling you didn't do it .” You can’t do it. You don’t have the power. You are only a deacon.”

From the Book “To Save a Thousand Souls” Fr. Brett A. Brannen

O Jesus, Our Eternal Pastor, Deign to look with merciful eyes Upon this part of your loving flock. Lord, we need a large number of priests, and men and women consecrated to the religious life. Multiply vocations, And sanctify more and more our priests, And those consecrated in the religious life. We ask you all this through the Immaculate Virgin Mary of Guadalupe, your sweet and holy Mother. Jesus give us priests according to your heart. Jesus, savior of all people, save them, save them! T y p o l o g y The Jesus I Forgot

you, but also to see you.

Remember Him

By Avera Maria Santo Part II

Do You Forget?

I wonder if you can relate to any of my story, to any of the times I’ve forgotten how good God is. I wonder if you’ve at any time forgotten Jesus, and if so, I want to remind you who He is. The Jesus you forgot was there when the blind man begged for pity, and wanted to see (Luke 18:35 -43). He knelt before this man, loved him as he was, and brought him out of his infirmity. In the areas where sin may blind you from seeing the good that our Lord is, call out to Him, and tell Him you want to see.

We should do all that we can to make sure that we never forget this Jesus, the Lord of all who was sent by the Father as a ransom for us because He didn’t want Heaven without us. We often see the Crucifix and may become desensitized to it, but we cannot forget His sacrifice, His love that revealed His love for us, and His desire to spend all of eternity in communion with us. If this Jesus, the true Jesus, is the One you forgot, I encourage you to remind yourself of His willingness to heal, His thirst to fulfill, His longing to gaze at His beloved, His ultimate sacrifice that He would’ve gone through if it was only you He was saving.

The Jesus you forgot was there when the sinful woman came to the well, at the hottest part of the The Jesus you forgot is still there, waiting for you day, not wanting to be seen, searching for water to remember Him. that would never leave her thirsty again (John 4:1Even in the times you may have forgotten Him, 39). He saw inside her heart of hearts that she He has never, and will never, forget you. desired something more, and He offered His very self to her. When you come to the wells in your life that leave you thirsty and decide that you want living water, He is ready and willing to give you what you’re asking for. The Jesus you forgot was there when the woman who had been hemorrhaging for 12 years knew that if she just touched His cloak, she would be healed (Mark 5:25-34). Even when the power had left Him and healed her, it wasn’t enough for Him. He found her in the crowd that surrounded Him, looked at her, and encountered her Man to woman, Lover to beloved. When it seems as though your problems aren’t big enough, aren’t bad enough, or you simply aren’t visible enough for the Lord to see you run away; never mind the crowds or those in different situations than you, for God desires not only to heal

With the Heart of Jesus

In the Eucharist we find all the good of the Church. In it we have the certainty that God is faithful to His promise and stays with us until the end of time. In our visits and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, we experience the closeness of the good shepherd, the tenderness of His love, the presence of a faithful friend. We all experience this large support in our lives provided by faith and our personal and intimate dialogue with the Lord in the Eucharist. Come Adore Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament Monday through Friday from 10am to 9pm.
