The ILL’s Projects and Techniques Division, which is responsible for developing and providing technical support for the equipment needed to conduct the scientific experiments, currently has a vacancy for a:
Head of the Self-Service Workshop (m/f) The self-service workshop houses around fifteen conventional machines tools, which are made available to ILL technicians for operations such as machining, turning and milling.
Duties:
Manage the workshop: maintenance of the machines, management of small tools and of the stocks of raw materials. Assist and train the technicians who use the self-service workshop. Perform the machining of mechanical parts (turning and milling) for the requirements of the workshop or in-house customers.
Qualifications / Experience / Soft skills:
You have an NVQ level 2 or 3 in mechanical engineering, or an equivalent qualification. You have a significant amount of experience (at least 5 to 10 years) working as a multi-skilled machine tool technician/operator. You have a methodical and disciplined approach to your work and are able to ensure that users comply with workshop regulations and instructions. You have excellent interpersonal, teaching and listening skills to be able to assist and train the workshop users.
Language skills : As an international research centre, we are particularly keen to ensure that we also attract applicants from outside France. You must have a sound knowledge of English and be willing to learn French (a language course will be paid for by the ILL). Knowledge of German would be an advantage.
Notes : This post is a permanent position. Medical fitness for work under ionising radiation is required.
