Message from the Pastor Religious Education in all of its forms is “top priority” in our Holy Church. Before Jesus ascended into heaven he told his Apostles to go into the whole world to teach all peoples what he had taught them. This command is the mission of the Church. We fulfill this command with our preaching and our teaching. No teaching is more precious than that of communicating to our children the saving Word of Jesus. Those who engage in this ministry of teaching are highly blessed by Our Lord. Please help us to bring Religious Education to all of our children.

The Program of Religious Education at Saint Catherine of Genoa invites the community to participate in the responsibility that each one has as a catechist. Parents should fulfill that grace which they receive in the Sacrament of Matrimony (the grace and ministry of the Christian education of their children). The priests work to see that the faithful are properly formed and reach true Christian maturity. Christian initiation, indeed, should not be the work of the catechists and priests alone, but of the whole community of the faithful. The entire community should feel responsible for this service. Religious Education is a service that is performed by priests, deacons, religious and laity in communion with our Bishop. Our Religious Education is for students that attend public schools in Kindergarten through high school. We prepare them to receive the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Reconciliation, Communion and Confirmation. We also teach them more about their faith and what it means to be a Christian.

PROGRAM INFORMATION • The

Sacrament of Reconciliation & First Communion are received in the same year after completion of 2 full years of study. • The Sacrament of confirmation is usually received in the 8th grade or age 13 and requires 2 full years of study and community service after receiving Communion. • Registration is required each year of study. ACADEMICS

• Weekly attendance • Proper preparation for class • Completed homework • Textbook, pencil or pen • Participation in class discussion and activities • Satisfactory completion of assignments • Attend mandatory retreats Tests will be given periodically. Progress reports

ABSCENCES If your child will be absent please call the Religious Education Coordinator. Only 3 absences are allowed from September through June. Missed classes will be have to be made-up. RELIGIOUS OBLIGATIONS • To participate in the Celebration of Mass on all Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation • To try to follow the laws, norms and guidelines that tell Catholics how to love God and their neighbor: Ten Commandments, Beatitudes, Corporal Works of Mercy, Spiritual Works of Mercy and Church Laws. PARENT MEETINGS All parents are required to attend an orientation meeting in September. There will be family formation and retreats throughout the year which will be announced. COMMUNICATION Please contact the Religious Education Coordinator at any time with your questions or concerns. Announcements of activities will be posted in the Parish bulletin and sent home with the children. Please check for handouts in your child’s folder each week.

Registration and Class Information ALL CHILDREN : Ages 6 to 17 DOCUMENTS NEEDED: Baptismal Certificate First Communion Certificate (if applicable) If your child attended another program last year, bring a copy of the record card. REGISTRATION FEE: $40.00 per child which includes books. CLASS SCHEDULE: Kinder—7th Grade Every Sunday from 9:30 am -12:00 pm (beginning with Mass at 9:30) Children are to arrive by 9:15am in order to be seated before Mass starts. 8th-12th Grade Every Saturday from 5pm-9pm Youth are to arrive no later than 4:45pm

Mensaje del Párroco La Educación Religiosa en todas sus formas es “la prioridad más alta” de nuestra Santa Iglesia. Antes de ascender a los cielos Jesús dijo a sus Apóstoles: vayan y enséñenles a todas las naciones lo que yo les he enseñado. Este mandato es la misión de la Iglesia. Cumplimos con este mandato por nuestra predicación y enseñanza. No hay enseñaza más preciosa que la de comunicar a nuestros niños lo que el Señor nos ha comunicado. Los que participan en este ministerio serán altamente bendecidos por Nuestro Señor. Por favor, ayúdenos a educar religiosamente a todos nuestros niños.

El programa de Educación Religiosa de Santa Catalina de Génova invita a todos a participar de la responsabilidad de compartir nuestra fe. Los padres tienen la oportunidad vivir la gracia que recibieron en el Sacramento de Matrimonio en el compartir de su fe con sus hijos. Los Sacerdotes vigilan para que los creyentes estén bien formados en la fe. La iniciación cristiana no es un trabajo solo del catequista o del sacerdote exclusivamente es de toda la comunidad de los creyentes. Toda la comunidad debería sentirse responsable de este ministerio. La Educación Religiosa es un servicio realizado por los sacerdotes, los diáconos, los religiosos y los laicos en comunión con el Obispo. Nuestro programa de educación religiosa es para estudiantes que asisten a escuelas públicas de Kindergarten hasta escuela superior. Preparamos a nuestros niños para recibir los Sacramentos de iniciación: Bautismo, Comunión, Reconciliación y Confirmación. También les enseñamos acerca de su fe y que es ser cristiano.

INFORMACION del PROGRAMA de CATECISMO • El Sacramento de Reconciliación y Primera Comunión es recibida en el mismo año después de la terminación de 2 años completos de estudio. • El Sacramento de la Confirmación es recibido generalmente en el grado 8 o a los 13 años y requiere 2 años completos de estudio y el trabajo comunitario después de recibir la Comunión. • Todos tienen que matricular cada año de estudio. ACADEMICAS • La asistencia semanal • la preparación apropiada para la clase • Tarea completado • Libro de texto, lápiz o bolígrafo • Participación en la discusión y actividades de la clase • La terminación satisfactoria de asignaciones. • Es obligatorio asistir los retiros Habrán pruebas durante el año. Los informes sobre el progreso serán publicados en enero y junio. AUSENCIAS Si su niño estará ausente llame por favor a la Coordinadora de Educación Religiosa. Sólo 3 ausencias son permitidas de septiembre hasta junio. Las clases perdida se tienen que reponer. OBLIGACIONES RELIGIOSAS • Tomar parte en la Celebración de La Misa todos los domingos y Días de Obligación. • Tratar de seguir las leyes, las normas y las pautas que dicen a Católicos para cómo adorar Dios y a su vecino: Los Diez Mandamientos, Las Bienaventuranzas, los Trabajos Corporales de Misericordia, los Trabajos Espirituales de Misericordia, Las Leyes de la Iglesia. REUNIÓN CON LOS PADRES Todo los padres son requerido a asistir una reunión de orientación en septiembre. Habrá retiros y formación de familia a través del año que serán anunciado. COMUNICACIONES Contacte por favor la Coordinadora de Educación Religiosa con sus preguntas o concierna.
