If you are reading this and are feeling suicidal, talk to someone now or call 911 for help. What leads to suicide? According to the American Foundation For Suicide Prevention, there is no single cause for suicide. Suicide most often occurs when stressors and health issues come together and leave an individual feeling hopelessness and in despair. Depression is the most common condition associated with suicide, and it is often undiagnosed or untreated. That means you might not know or realize you are depressed. Conditions like depression, anxiety and substance use problems, especially when unaddressed, increase risk for suicide. But, most people who actively find ways to manage their mental health conditions go on to engage in life. ( www.afsp.org )
