Application The PC8AHX relay is designed for use in rail vehicles, where a high degree of reliability and a high contact rating are stipulated, with minimal internal consumption. Acting as an instantaneous switching element, it provides galvanic separation and contact multiplication in protection, sequencing and signaling systems of locomotives. The relay has a proven design and it is suitable for critical electrical, mechanical and environmental requirements of railways.
Description The auxiliary relays type PC8AHX is an instantaneous, plunger-type relay with heavy-duty double interruption contacts. The relay picks up when 110 V DC is extended to terminal ‘a’ and ‘b’. It drops out when this voltage is interrupted. The PC8AHX relay has seven output contacts. The low pick-up value of the PC8AHX relay (approx. 50% of rated) along with the plunger movement of 3 mm and the strong restoring springs ensure that the holding force on the plunger is sufficiently large, both, in picked up and dropped out conditions. The strong holding force in turn ensures operational reliability in conditions of vibration and shock, expected in rail vehicles. The contacts are made of silver-palladium alloy and are gold plated. The special contact metallurgy assures contact life (electrical & mechanical durability) in severe environmental conditions expected in rail vehicles. The contacts have low resistance and unlike pure silver contacts, they can withstand noxious effects of tropical conditions and are free from sulphur attacks. This feature makes the relays suitable for higher switching rates. A transparent protective hood of polycarbonate material, that does not burn easily, provides good protection against dust. The plug-in mounting method is ideal for installation and servicing. Guide pins prevent the relay from being plugged in the wrong way round. The marking of the terminals on the base matches with that of the relay contacts.
