GOVERNING BOARD CANDIDATE STATEMENT VAIL UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 20

JON AITKEN

Hello! My name is Jon Aitken and I am a candidate for Governing Board member for the Vail Unified School District in the general election to be held on November 4, 2014.

I have lived in the Vail School District since 1999, when my wife and I bought a home in the Rita

Ranch neighborhood next to Purple Heart Park. My oldest child went to Cottonwood Elementary School.

In 2003, our family expanded and we relocated to the new development, Mesquite Ranch. At that time, the Mesqu Ranch neighborhood didn’t have its own school and so my children attended Desert Willow.

In 2005, I joined the planning committee for the new, as yet unnamed school to serve Mesquite Ranch, Sierra Morado and Civano. That soon was to be called Senita Valley and we opened in 2007. I have served as President of the Site Council ever since.

In 2007, I participated on the planning committee for the new middle school that was to share the

site of Senita Valley. This school is called Rincon Vista Middle School. Since it’s opening, I have served on the PTA as treasurer and web master for the PTA.

I am honored to have served the Vail School District in other capacities to include Boundaries

Committee, Contractor Selection Committee for new schools, and to have represented the Vail USD in front of the Arizona State Legislature.

It is now time to step and serve my community, my school and my family by serving as an elected board member on the Vail Unified School District Governing Board.

DECLARACIÓN DEL CANDIDATO A LA JUNTA DE GOBIERNO DEL DISTRITO ESCOLAR UNIFICADO NO. 20 DE VAIL ¡Hola! Mi nombre es Jon Aitken y soy candidato para ser miembro de la Junta de Gobierno del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Vail en la elección general que va ser celebrada el 4 de noviembre

del 2014.

Yo he vivido en el Distrito Escolar de Vail desde 1999, cuando mi esposa y yo compramos un hogar en el barrio de Rita Ranch en seguida del Parque Purple Heart. Mi hijo mayor asistió a la Escuela Primaria Cottonwood.

En el 2003, mi familia se expandió y nos trasladamos a la nueva urbanización, Mesquite Ranch. En ese entonces, el barrio de Mesquite Ranch no tenía su propia escuela, y mis hijos asistieron a Desert Willow.

En el 2005, me uní al comité de planificación para la nueva escuela aún sin nombre que servirá a

Mesquite Ranch, Sierra Morado y Civano. Esta se abrió en el 2007 y fue nombrada Senita Valley. He prestado mi servicio como Presidente del Consejo Escolar desde ese entonces.

En el 2007, participé en el comité de planificación para la nueva escuela media que compartiría el

sitio de Senita Valley. Las escuela fue nombrada Escuela Media Rincon Valley. Desde la apertura, he prestado mi servicio como tesorero y administrado de Web de la PTA.

Tengo el honor de haber servido al Distrito Escolar de Vail en otras capacidades incluyendo el Comité de Fronteras, Comité de Selección de Contratista de escuelas nuevas, y para representar al Distrito de Vail ante la Legislatura Estatal de Arizona.

Ahora es el momento para reforzar mi servicio a mi comunidad, mi escuela y mi familia por

medio de servir como miembro electo de la Junta de Gobierno del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Vail.
