ARLINGTON COUNTY

RESIDENTIAL SERVICES GUIDE AT-A-GLANCE

Curbside Customers

All County Residents

The curbside services that follow are only available to residents with weekly trash, recycling and yard trimmings collection provided by the County. These residences are primarily single-family and townhomes.

Weekly Collection Services Trash, recycling and yard trimmings collections occur on the same day. Have all carts out no earlier than 5 p.m. the day before and no later than 6 a.m. on your collection day.

Recycling • Place clean and empty recyclables loose in the blue recycling cart, your own personal container, paper bags or in cardboard boxes. • Do not place food, liquids or grease soaked materials in the blue recycling cart.

Recycling right is more important than ever before. Flip to the back to see the 12 items you should NEVER place in your recycling container!

• Cart services, including repairs and exchanges to County-owned carts, take place on your normal collection day. • Please note: 96-gallon trash carts are no longer provided by the County. Once older 96-gallon trash carts are no longer serviceable, they are replaced with 64-gallon carts. • Additional carts may be rented for $2.00/month. Visit our website for details.

Scrap metal and appliance collection • There are no fees to collect small appliances such as toasters and blenders, or small metal items. • A $10 flat fee per collection applies to major appliances including: refrigerators, freezers, washers, dryers, dishwashers, air conditioners and water heaters.

Electronic waste collection • Small and loose materials should be placed in a small rigid container labeled “E-Waste”. RECYCLE

Yard Trimmings • Place yard trimmings in the green organics cart, biodegradable paper yard bags, personal containers or in bundles under 4 feet in length and under 50 pounds in weight. • Yard trimmings in plastic bags will NOT be collected.

Trash • Trash that will not fit in the black trash cart can be placed in plastic bags and set curbside. • Large items such as furniture and mattresses can be set curbside and collected with your weekly trash. • Materials such as lumber, mirrors and glass have special preparation for collection. Visit our searchable “Where Does It Go” database online at recycling.arlingtonva.us for additional instructions.

Services Available by Request The following services should be requested by 6 a.m. on your collection day and may be scheduled online by visiting recycling.arlingtonva.us/residential or using our mobile app. To download the app, search “ArlingtonVA Service Requests” on the App Store for iOS devices or Google Play Store. The County sweeps streets and bike lanes from April to October. This is one of the most cost-effective ways to prevent sediments and other pollutants from washing into our local streams, the Potomac River and the Chesapeake Bay. To find out when street sweepers are in your neighborhood, visit: www.arlingtonva.us and search “street sweeping.”
