April 2017 Case of the Month Species: Canine Schnauzer Sex: CM Age: 10 years

Canine of indeterminate breed, medium size, intact female, of uncertain age (looks young by the teeth), hematuria without dysuria. The patient was rescued from the street, a waterfront, a month ago. At that time she was pregnant, and gave birth to 4 puppies on the second day of being rescued. One of the pups died immediately (no necropsy was performed on the deceased pup or studies on the mother). The day before the ultrasound study had vomiting and diarrhea semiliquid, without blood. The patient is alert, slightly dehydrated, afebrile. She was not medicated. Ultrasound is ordered to rule out bladder stones. The patient was not adequately fasted at the time of ultrasound.

Images 9 and 10 - Longitudinal views of the right kidney (6,2x4,3 cm) where we observed multiple cuts of parasites Dioctophyma renale.

Image 11 – Aorta Abdominal caudal, Right Iliac Extern Artery, Right Iliac Medial Lymph Node reactive (3x1,8 cm).

Ultrasound Diagnosis: * Colitis. * Gall bladder and Urinary bladder with non-mineralized sediment. * Right renal parasitism – Dioctophyma renale. * Reactive iliac lymphadenopathy.
