Roll Call – Excused Debbie Augusta & Maureen Cool. Approval of Minutes – Karen Hecker moved; Kevin Murphy 2nd; unanimous approval. Old Business: Pastor’s Report – The DOV has put a bid in on Kenilworth School in Sebring to better facilitate and expand St. Catherine Catholic Grade School, which is Pre-K thru grade 5, with an increasing enrollment of 120 students. This will enable St. Catherine’s to expand from a PreK – 5 to a PreK – 8. A number of parishes came together to provide upfront purchase money, including OLG, which contributed $125,000 from the interest on the investment account. Each of the following parishes contributed $125,000: St. James, Lake Placid, St. Catherine, Sebring, Our Lady of Mercy, Boca Grande; $100,000 from Resurrection in Ft. Myers. St. Williams, Naples, is also considering $100,000. The Purchase price on the school is in the realm of $1 million. It is hoped to have it in place for the fall. Father has received a number of positive comments on the music at the 10:30 a.m. Family Mass. Finance Ministry Report – Jerry Myers, chair, introduced Betty Partridge, who will become a new member of the finance committee and, will replace Jerry Myers as chair. Jerry presented the 2nd quarter report – October thru December. Offertory income was down slightly over same quarter in 2016. OLG received its 2017 Catholic Faith Appeal Goal, in the amount of $114,000. The DOV investment account showed an increase for the month of December. Religious Education Report – 247 students enrolled as of December 2016. 21 candidates received Confirmation in November. Bishop Dewane complimented Religious Education program on thorough preparation. Poinsettia Sales by youth group a success. Christmas Pageant had a supportive turn-out from parishioners. Buildings & Grounds – Dennis Kellner reported that site typographical survey has gone to SWWMD for approval in preparation for parking lot extension. The mulch application is completed. The annual fire inspection is completed. Technology and Communications – Parish website is continually being updated. DOV Faith formation classes being transmitted by the video teleconferencing system on Wed. mornings. Social Ministry – getting ready for Valentine’s dinner-dance February 12. Stewardship – Dr. Mark Sevigny, chair, reported on the two-hour Stewardship workshop with Blessed Trinity Parish, Ocala, which the Stewardship committee of twelve found very helpful. There is a follow up schedule to prepare members to introduce Stewardship to OLG parish. Community Life – Karen Hecker reported on the activities of the Church Service Center (CSC). It continues to feed in excess of 600 families every month; to provide clothing; and to assist with electric and water bills and with rent and mortgage payments. It reported 77 new clients for the month of December. The K of C launched its 40 days for Life program. It had a generous response to its Baby Bottle Campaign during the month of October, netting $5,300, which it will present to “Choices,” the Pregnancy Crisis Care clinic in Avon Park. Meals on Wheels reported 107 clients. It recently received a $1,000 donation. Bereavement – John Wohlbert commended for providing 6 one hour bereavement sessions. Hispanic Ministry – Humberto Ramirez, chair, and Teresa Torres commended for a successful Guadalupe festival – approximately 1,500 attended. Excellent coverage in local newspaper.
