“Christ is risen! He is truly risen!” Throughout the world the Easter proclamation sounds again as it has nearly 2000 times before. Jesus of Nazareth, crucified for all to see, has come forth from the tomb overflowing with life. But He has not gone to live in some far-away and inaccessible dimension; He has not left us behind to fend from ourselves in this vale of tears. No. Just as He emptied Himself to die for us, so He has filled Himself with life—He has risen—for us. The Lord Jesus has come back to us from the dead to share His victory with those who sent Him to the Cross. On the eve of His Resurrection He breathes out His life-giving Spirit to give His Church the power to free us from the sins that nailed him to the Cross. Repentant and forgiven, we rise from them to live from the heart the new life of the Risen One in our midst. Jesus told His disciples in advance that He would die and rise, and they asked one another what “rising from the dead” might mean. They didn’t know and couldn’t—until they encountered the unmistakable, unavoidable reality right before them. So it is with us. We can’t grasp the Resurrection if we keep ourselves at a distance of uncommitted neutrality. Like doubting Thomas, we must come close enough to touch the mystery, close enough to know by faith that Jesus was wounded for us. Only then can we take the decision is live our lives for Him Who loved us and gave Himself for us. “Christ is truly risen.” He Who lives now lives in us.  Peace and joy to you this Easter. 





Jesús de Nazaret, crucificado para qué todos lo vieran, ha salido de la tumba lleno de vida. Pero Él no se ha ido a vivir en una dimensión lejana e inaccesible, porque Él no nos ha dejado a nuestra suerte en este valle de lágrimas. No. Así como Él se despojó de sí mismo para morir por nosotros, así Él se ha llenado de vida—Él ha resucitado—por nosotros. El Señor Jesús ha venido a nosotros de entre los muertos para compartir su victoria con los que le enviaron a la Cruz. En la víspera de su resurrección Él exhala su vida -dando su Espíritu que da vida para dar a su Iglesia el poder de liberarnos de los pecados que lo clavaron en la cruz. Arrepiéntanse y perdonen, nos levantamos de ellos a vivir en el corazón de la nueva vida del Resucitado que está en medio de nosotros. De antemano Jesús dijo a sus discípulos que Él iba a morir y resucitar, y se preguntaban unos a otros lo que significaría “resucitar de entre los muertos”. Ellos no lo sabían y no lo podían saber—hasta que se toparon con la realidad inconfundible e inevitable frente a ellos. Así es con nosotros. No podemos entender la resurrección si nos mantenemos a distancia, neutrales y sin comprometernos. Como Tomás el incrédulo, tenemos que acércanos lo suficiente para poder tocar el misterio, lo suficientemente cerca para saber por la fe que Jesús fue herido por nosotros. Sólo entonces podremos tomar la decisión de vivir la vida por Aquel que nos amó y se entregó por nosotros. “Cristo ha resucitado verdaderamente.” Él vive y ahora vive en nosotros.  La paz pascual a todos ustedes. 

PARISH NEWS: St. Pius X and Sacred Heart, Klamath Falls January 22, 2013 Roe vs. Wade Rally The Respect Life Group from St. Pius X and Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Churches, and Klamath County Right to Life in Klamath Falls, Oregon, co-sponsored the annual Rally at the Government Center, to oppose the Roe vs. Wade decision, which makes abortion legal in the United States, even up to 9 months of life. This was considered a prayer gathering with speakers. Father Rick Fischer opened with a prayer and Pastor Bob White closed. They had three speakers: Dennis Linthicum, Klamath County Commissioner, Diane Stringer, 40 Days for Life, and Jeff Woodwick, President of Klamath County Right to Life. Dave Taylor and Don Metzler from the local Knights of Columbus Chapter, served as honor guard. The Knights brought up a memorial wreath and invited those in attendance (about 106) to come for a free hot meal at the K of C Hall after. Kathy Poe led us in singing Isaiah 49, “I Will Never Forget You My People”.

PARISH NEWS: Sacred Heart, Klamath Falls

Saturday, February 23rd, Sacred Heart Church offered a Lenten retreat with Presenter, Barry Metzentine, the Diocesan Director of Evangelization and Catechesis, to show us how to ‘Know Christ—Live Christ—and Share Christ’. The fruits of this retreat resulted in some excellent suggestions on how we can accomplish these goals as individuals, couples, families and as a parish. Some of the suggestions that developed from the “brainstorming sessions” might be useful to all parishes. They are:  Read Sacred Scripture or the Catechism for 5-15   

minutes daily. Discuss the Sunday readings before attending Mass. Make a pilgrimage to a holy site. Watch movies as a family that promote Catholic values and morals. Support non-profit organizations that reflect Catholic social justice teachings Monthly Confession Pray before meals when in a restaurant. Invite a fallen-away family member or friend to a barbecue or dinner at your home. Identify excess in your life and donate to charity. Volunteer for a parish ministry. PARISH NEWS: Blessed Sacrament, Ontario The Year of Faith took on a deeper meaning March 12th for 40 members of Blessed Sacrament Church of Ontario. The group made a pilgrimage to St. Francis de Sales Cathedral where they spent a prayerful hour during which time they prayed the rosary, attended Reconciliation, held Benediction, prayed the Divine Mercy, and celebrated Mass with Father Jose presiding.

PARISH YOUTH NEWS: Our Lady of Angels, Hermiston Each year, Our Lady of Angels Youth in Hermiston participate in the national “Souper Bowl of Caring” event. Youth are encouraged to ask those who will be snacking during the Super Bowl games to donate either canned food items or just one dollar to help those who might not even eat at all that day. Due to the generosity of the Parishioners the Youth were able to collect $1,414.00, and some canned food items, to feed the poor in their community. The money was divided evenly between the Parish Friday Soup Kitchen and the Agape House, a local community food bank. The Youth at Our Lady of Angels Parish wish to encourage other Youth around the Diocese to participate in next year’s “Souper Bowl of Caring” event. After lunch, Father Julian Cassar presented a slide presentation on “The Beauty of Our Faith” with much timely information on the selection process for a new Pope. After a brief history of the Cathedral, again presented by Father Julian, they journeyed back to Ontario.

Don’t Miss The Bus! YOUTH MINISTRY NEWS: Youth from the Diocese of Baker have been busy during the month of March. We had around 100 youth and chaperones attend the Idaho Catholic Youth Conference in Boise Klamath Falls ICYC Group March 8-10 at Bishop Kelly High School. They were joined by over 1400 high school students who gathered to hear dynamic speakers, experience awesome praise and worship led by Ike Ndolo, and come face-to-face with Jesus in a profound way. For anyone who may have heard great things about this event, make sure you mark your calendars and tell your youth minister so you can come to ICYC 2014 from February 28 - March 2. continued >>

In the middle of March, the Diocese of Baker was host to “The New Sexual Revolution” in Bend and La Grande. Chris Stefanick, an internationally renowned chastity speaker and founder of Real Life Catholic, came to our Diocese to Chris, Ike and David share the good news about sex, sexuality, and God’s plan for our lives. He was joined in Bend by Ike Ndolo, a Catholic praise and worship artist, who blessed us with his musical gifts as we adored Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. This was an amazing experience and Fr. Chris with David, Chris, Shannon Garlitz, and KC Kunkle one we hope to have in La Grande regularly in our Diocese.
