This special issue contains five extended papers that were selected as the best articles from the XIII Workshop on Agents and Intelligent Systems. This workshop was held at Universidad Nacional del Sur, Bah´ıa Blanca, Argentina, between 9th and 11th November 2012. The Workshop on Agents and Intelligent Systems is held yearly as a joint event during the Argentine Congress on Computer Sciences, an Argentine Conference which has been held yearly from 1995. The selected papers included in this issue are: • Hybridization of Differential Evolution using Hill Climbing to solve Constrained Optimization Problems. • An Approach to Argumentation Schemes that Appeal to Expert Opinion. Paola Daniela Bud´an, Maximiliano Celmo David Bud´ an and Guillermo Ricardo Simari. These articles were selected among other twenty-three papers that were accepted for the workshop presentation after a round of review. The selected papers were revised and extended by the authors and then they had a second phase of evaluation.
