A PhD candidate from the University of Chicago’s Oriental Institute will talk about Mesopotamia archaeological excavations and take us on a virtual tour of ancient Assyrian royal cities. He will also address current concerns about the preservation of archaeological heritage in a time of war.

The objective of the game is to accumulate the most points by correctly guessing the winning pick for each of the matchups. Sixteen books, four rounds, judges drawn from the library staff. Fill out a bracket with your predictions, and turn it in before Oct. 6th. The winning books from each round will be announced through the month of Oct., with the overall winner announced Oct. 28th.

Day of Chocolate (YA)(F): Thursday, September 22nd, 5-6 PM. Come in and sample different types of chocolate from around the world. If we try to get you to pick up a book while you’re at it, you can’t blame us... Has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that the YA librarian just got back from Belgium. Nothing at all. Really. Papier-Mâché (YA): Monday, October 10th, 6-8 PM. We know papier-mâché. Oh yes we do. Versatile, easy to learn, and cheap. Come make a little sculpture with our “Creative-Nonsenites.” Be on the lookout for a Halloween program, TBA. It will involve liquid latex, fake blood, and be upsetting to parents. Should be great!
