All traffic, including cars, trucks and buses, are allowed to travel in these lanes at all times during the day. In Crystal City, the left hand lane along the Transitway route will be a mixed use travel lane and open to all traffic.

These lanes in Potomac Yard are separated from traffic on S. Glebe Rd., US Route 1 and Crystal Dr. by a curb. The lanes can only be used by authorized buses and emergency vehicles. Signage at intersections note these restrictions.

Exclusive Bus Lanes

In Crystal City, the existing northbound curbside lane on Crystal Drive and the southbound curbside lane on South Clark/Bell Street are being converted to a peak period bus lane (see map). Only buses will be allowed to use the lane on weekdays between 5 am - 9 am and 3 pm - 8 pm. Other vehicles may enter the bus lane only to make a right hand turn at the next corner or turn into driveways within the block. Bicycles will be allowed to travel in the lane.

The County’s Crystal City-Potomac Yard Transitway project is introducing dedicated bus lanes to Arlington streets. The new lanes will provide faster, more reliable travel for bus riders along the Route 1 corridor. There will be two types of dedicated bus lanes:
