Imperfect progressive and preterite (continued) • The imperfect progressive and the preterite tenses can be used in the same sentence. The imperfect progressive describes what was happening while the preterite tells about something specific that happened or that interrupted an action. Ella estaba corriendo cuando se lastimó el tobillo. She was running when she hurt her ankle. D.
