FAFSA Day FAFSA Day is a program offered by College Foundation of North Carolina, the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and the State Employees' Credit Union each February. On FAFSA Day, Saturday, February 28, 2015 college financial aid officers and other volunteers will help students complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms. The program is open to students who plan to attend college in the 2015-16 academic school year. 2015-16 Minority Medical Mentoring Program The Minority Medical Mentoring Program (MMMP) is an internship for under-represented minority students who have an interest in a career as a dentist, pharmacist, physical therapist or physician. The program pairs minority high school students with providers practicing in Buncombe County. MMMP is open to high school seniors who plan to participate in a school-sanctioned internship for course credit through the Asheville City or Buncombe County School systems. Students experience a variety of healthcare disciplines during internship rotations, such as anesthesiology, cardiology, dentistry, dermatology, family medicine, geriatrics, genetics, integrative medicine, internal medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, oncology, ophthalmology, optometry, palliative care, pharmacotherapy, physical medicine, public health, radiology, traumatic surgery and more. Kaleidoscope of Health: Leading with the Mind, Body and Soul A three-day conference for North Carolina high school students with a demonstrated interest in the health professions. Twenty-four slots are reserved for WNC students. Through educational workshops & discussions, the FLHC conference provides a forum that meets the preprofessional needs of high school students interested in pursuing a career in healthcare. This camp is designed as an early intervention tool for students in Western North Carolina to help increase the health profession applicant pool with special emphasis on underrepresented populations. This residential camp targets economically disadvantaged and underrepresented minority middle school students but is open to all students. The program is a week-long residential summer camp for twenty-four rising 7th & 8th grade students interested in a career in healthcare. Campers will participate in exciting activities such as tours of two regional hospitals, CPR or First Aid certification, white water rafting, personal growth activities, cultural diversity discussions, ropes course, work session with the College Foundation of NC, as well as opportunities to interact with health care professionals.

Health Careers Education Awareness Conference Theme: Rx for Success A one-day conference for high school students in western NC. Conference breakout sessions will provide practical information needed to make good decisions in choosing a future path in health occupations. Students will learn about college planning, financial aid, health and wellness, health disparities, technology, and other health career related topics. In addition, students will have the opportunity to interact with health care professionals that represent more than forty health care occupations.
