A Roman Catholic Stewardship Church Our Mission With the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we, the Roman Catholic Community of Santiago de Compostela aspire to proclaim in word and action the living Gospel of Jesus Christ. SECOND SUNDAY OF LENT Have you ever had a glimpse of God? Perhaps you perceived Gods presence in a quiet moment of prayer, a tender conversation with a loved one, or a difficult situation that was resolved unexpectedly. Peter, James, and John in todays Gospel were given a glimpse of Christs glory on the mountain, as Jesus was transfigured before them. Abram put his faith in God and saw Gods power in a wondrous sign of covenant love. We have the promise of eternal life with God in heaven. This promise brings with it responsibility, as people who are called to live as Christs very own in the world. Lent is the perfect time to resolve to listen more attentively to the Lord and follow Gods ways, assured that in doing so, we put our faith in the one, true, and faithful God.

Second Sunday of Lent

JMJ March 17, 2019 My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always.

March 17, 2019 us. We were apprehensive at first but then we were desperate enough to allow him to help us. We learned later that he was a student of a nearby prestigious university and he took time to help. He did not have to but he did. While this may not be a purely religious or spiritual experience - it is an experience of sincere kindness. Like him, we can create and make “Holy Moments” happen for others; we just need to listen to the Spirit moving our hearts and our lives. Let us go and do the same. God bless and take care.

Are you still journeying with us through the Best Lent Ever Prayer Journal? Have you participated in the study groups during Love and prayers, Friday Lenten Dinners discussing and sharing on the different chapters of the Book: “The Biggest Lie in the History of Christianity?” An affirmative response would be truly a step in the right direction Fr Thomas Paul K. Naval of truly entering into the spirit and discipline of Lent. Immersing ourselves would enable us to learn and be transformed by the grace of God. This is what the narrative of the Gospel is all about - the grace and power that makes us be the better version of ourselves - which is the intention of the Best Lent Ever experience. Last Ash Wednesday, two of our parish staff were sharing with me their experience when they bought their lunch. As they got off their car, they noticed the man in the car parked in front of theirs look intently and somewhat curiously on them. They were thinking of possible explanations until they realized that perhaps it is the very vivid Cross Ashes they had on their foreheads. Somehow it distinguishes them from most people. I believe this is the intent of Ash Wednesday - to become an evangelist - confidently spreading the Good News of our Lord Jesus Christ. We sign our foreheads but mark our hearts so there is a sense of consecrating and opening ourselves to be transfigured by our disciplined observance of the Lenten Spirit. As the Book “Biggest Lie” states, everyday is an opportunity to make real “holy moments” for ourselves and others especially those in need. Let me share an experience of a Holy Moment. In search of a parking spot, my friend drove the car to the point where there is almost no space to maneuverwhen we were running out of options on what to do - a young man approached us and volunteered to maneuver the car for

Dios bendiga y cuide. Con amor y mis oraciones,

P. Thomas Paul K. Naval

Important Information: Regarding Your Tithing

PASTORAL SERVICES APPEAL (PSA) 2019 “We Are One, Living the Gospel Message” Our Parish goal for the 2019 Pastoral Services Appeal is for at least 600 of families to pledge $133,000 to support Faith Formation, Outreach Ministries, Clergy Formation and Support and parish and diocesan advancement. Gifts made over that amount will go toward church needs and maintenance of our own parish. The PSA provides a convenient way for all of us, no matter what our time limitations, to take an active role in the mission of the church. As a guide to a proportionate gift, please consider pledging a percent of your income, or the pay for one or two hours work each month for ten months. You can submit your PSA Pledge Envelope during Masses this weekend or next, or return them to the parish office.

Foreign Currency and Tithing From time to time we receive foreign currency in our Sunday collection. Unfortunately, we are not able to deposit foreign monies with our bank. We dislike to throw away currency just because it is of no use to the parish when we know it has value elsewhere, so we ask you to please refrain from contributing with foreign coin. We appreciate our parishioner’s time, talent, and U.S. treasure!

We are able to track weekly donations only when our parishioners use their envelopes or utilize electronic fund transfer through WeShare. Loose cash or checks do not get posted to our database. To have your tithing documented, especially for tax purposes, please be sure to use either the envelopes or WeShare so we may properly record your contribution to the parish. When including a check in the donation envelope, please write your envelope number (which is also your Parish ID number) in the memo line of your check, as well as list the check number on the envelope. Thank you for your assistance and God bless you for your continued generosity.

SECOND COLLECTION Church in Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe TODAY we will take up the Collection for the Church Africa, Latin America and Eastern Europe. Funds from this collection support pastoral care, catechesis, building renovations, and seminary formation. Your support restores the Church and builds the future in this region. Please prayerfully consider how you can support the collection next week. More information can be found at www.usccb.org/ccee.

Let us reflect during this Lent with the powerful questions that invite us to make a change in our lives.

2nd Sunday: God allows us to know him through Jesus. How has knowing Jesus changed your life? Day 11: Holiness is possible, one moment at a time. How do you live life one moment at a time? Day 12: Being honest with God will deepen your relationship with him in a profound way. What have you been lying to God about? Day 13: The-best-version-of-yourself celebrates virtue and creates Holy moments. Of these three virtues, which would you like to focus on growing in? (Patience, Generosity, Self-Control) Day 14: We need God’s grace. When have you been aware of grace at work in your life? Day 15: The world needs changing, and it is unlikely to happen unless Christians come together to be the change. What change would you most like to see in our culture? Day 16: Your marriage, your children, your friends, your work… every area of your life needs Holy moments. What area in your life needs Holy moments the most right now?

Instead, discover simple ways to transform your life in forty days. Join our parish for BEST LENT EVER, a free email program from Dynamic Catholic that is designated to help you have a life-changing Lent.
