ITEM AND ISSUE: Request approval of the City of Santa Fe 201 6/2017 Resident Survey.
BACKGROUND AND SUMMARY: On August 31 the City Council approved the Strategic Planning Resolution. One directive of the Resolution was that the City government would engage in an informational gathering process to better understand the resident's perspective on the quality oflife in Santa Fe. Staff engaged with National Research Center (NRC) to undertake the initiative. The random survey will be mailed to 3,000 residents throughout the City. Prior to the survey each participant will receive a notification postcard. Following the survey mailing the selected participant will receive a follow up letter. The probability of the number of respondents increases with this approach. The surveys, letters, and postcards are published in English and Spanish. In addition to the random selection the City of Santa Fe is self-promoting an Opt-In survey to expand the opportunity to participate. This survey will be made available in paper form at all Public Libraries and on-line as welL Staff is currently engaging with various partners including the Santa Fe Public Schools, Santa Fe Community College and others to spread the word. Additionally, a marketing plan is being put together with the input of Tourism Santa Fe and the Public Information Office. The plan includes bus wraps, PSA' s, social media and brochures. The responses are expected to be available in early January. The results will be compared against other comparable communities as a benchmark. Additionally, the quality of life questions will be compared in conjunction with demographic and geographic information. This cross sectioning of the data will help the City government better understand the quality of life priorities City wide. A representative of the NRC will present the compilation to the Governing Body in the New Year. The mailing will commence upon Council approval after November 9th.
