MATCH #9 RESULTS Virginia Earns Semifinal Berth
Two-time defending champs take one step closer to defending their title. ATHENS, Ga. — Two-time defending champion Virginia took the next step to completing their second title defense, earning a semifinal berth with a 4-1 win over 10th-seeded Texas. The Cavaliers won the doubles point with wins on the second and third courts, clinched by a 6-4 win from the pair of Thai-Son Kwiatkowski and Alexander Ritschard on court two. Virginia held momentum at the start of singles play, taking courts four and three, respectively, to seize a 3-0 advantage. No. 40 Collin Altamirano made swift work of Texas’ George Goldhoff, 6-1, 6-0, followed by Carl Soderlund’s 6-2, 6-1 decision. The Longhorns countered with a win on the top court, Christian Sigsgaard’s 7-5, 6-3 victory over Ritschard, but J.C. Aragone clinched the match for UVA with a 6-2, 7-6 win.
