MAKE-UP DAYS FOR DAYS LOST DUE TO INCLEMENT WEATHER OR OTHER DECISIONS TO CLOSE SCHOOLS THE SUPERINTENDENT MAY REVISE MAKE-UP DAYS AS NEEDED Make-up days for days lost due to inclement weather or other decisions to close schools are listed below.
BARCROFT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL One to Approximately Ten Days Lost Instructional hours for the first ten days lost are not made up. One make-up day is built into the calendar; and Additional instructional hours beyond the 990 minimum teaching equivalent hours required by the State will be used to cover other times lost due to school closure for inclement weather or other emergency situations. Instructional hours missed will be monitored. This include hours missed due to late openings, early closings, full day closures, and other emergency situations. Should it be needed, an Alternative Make-up Day Plan will be forwarded to the School Board for approval. C-3 of § 22.1-98 of the Code of Virginia, Reduction of state aid when length of school term below 180 days or 990 hours, would be applied. It states, “When severe weather conditions or other emergency situations have resulted in the closing of any school in a school division and such school has been unable to meet the 180 teaching day requirement, the school division may make up the missed teaching days by providing its students with instructional hours equivalent to such missed teaching days to meet the minimum 990 teaching hour requirement.”
