Dear Families, Can you believe it? Another snow day today!! I miss the students when we are supposed to be at school and cannot because of the winter weather! Here is what we worked on this week: Religion​-Students learned about Jesus’ miracle of raising the widow’s son. We worked on Color War items (all in blue, of course). We also planted an amaryllis flower bulb to celebrate Mary and God’s creation of plants! (Did you notice Mary’s name is in the word amaryllis?!!) We will be measuring the growth of the plant (math class in religion class) and drawing what it looks like every few days (art class in religion class). Math​-If we ever get to the geometry math test, it will be a miracle! Today was the day scheduled for the test. We will be taking the math test tomorrow! Leading up to the test, the students reviewed the concepts we covered. They also worked on any math corrections they needed to fix. Reading​-We began the week with the final January book reports. The students learned about their book report ideas for historical fiction. I will send you the digital sheets I gave them. We read to your reading buddies on Wednesday. We made them a Valentine made out of construction paper! They loved them! Grammar​-This week, we talked about linking verbs, both present-tense (am, is, are) and past-tense (was and were). Science​- The students started their next science unit this week Monday. They are learning about weather in Mrs. Lamm’s class. Mrs. Lamm’s students are in Room 7 to learn about magnets, wave energy, and electricity. Due to the Snow Day today, the Color War is being postponed. It may be something we will try before the school year ends. My apologies! The students were so pumped to do this activity. Tomorrow is the last day for the Penny War! Our class will not have a Valentine’s Day food party. We will work in teams to solve a Valentine’s problem, learn who St. Valentine was, and look at our Valentine’s Day cards from our classmates. It is not a requirement to bring Valentine’s Day cards for classmates. With that being said, if a student wants to bring in Valentine’s Day cards, he/she must bring one for every student in class. If your child is including a food treat with their Valentine, please make sure it is peanut-free and made in a peanut-free facility. Thanks! Scholastic Book Club orders are due on Thursday, February 14, if you are interested in ordering any books this month. Our class code is P9T8Q.

If your child needs to order a recorder from Mrs. Karnopp, the deadline to order them is Friday (tomorrow). Students who got recorders last year need to find them by Monday, March 4. Get ready for beautiful music in your house! Questions for the week: Which two cities are you keeping track of their temperatures? Are you keeping track of their weather, too? What is different about action verbs and linking verbs? What happened to the widow’s son when Jesus saw him? 2-7-19 Boletín para padres Queridas familias, ¿Puedes creerlo? Otro día de nieve hoy !! ¡Extraño a los estudiantes cuando se supone que estamos en la escuela y no podemos por el clima invernal! Aquí es en lo que trabajamos esta semana: Religión: los estudiantes aprendieron sobre el milagro de Jesús de criar al hijo de la viuda. Trabajamos en artículos de Color War (todos en azul, por supuesto). ¡También plantamos un bulbo de flor de amaryllis para celebrar la creación de plantas de María y Dios! (¿¡Notaron que el nombre de Mary está en la palabra amaryllis? !!) Estaremos midiendo el crecimiento de la planta (clase de matemáticas en la clase de religión) y dibujaremos cómo se ve cada pocos días (clase de arte en la clase de religión). Matemáticas​: si alguna vez llegamos a la prueba de geometría matemática, ¡será un milagro! Hoy fue el día programado para la prueba. ¡Tomaremos el examen de matemáticas mañana! Antes de la prueba, los estudiantes revisaron los conceptos que cubrimos. También trabajaron en cualquier corrección matemática que necesitaban arreglar.

Lectura: ​comenzamos la semana con los informes finales de los libros de enero. Los estudiantes aprendieron sobre sus ideas de libros de relatos para ficción histórica. Te enviaré las hojas digitales que les di. Leemos a sus amigos de lectura el miércoles. ¡Les hicimos un San Valentín hecho de papel de construcción! ¡Ellos los amaron! Gramática​: esta semana, hablamos sobre la vinculación de los verbos, tanto en tiempo presente (am, is como son) y en pasado (fue y fue). Ciencia​- Los estudiantes comenzaron su próxima unidad de ciencia esta semana el lunes. Están aprendiendo sobre el clima en la clase de la Sra. Lamm. Los estudiantes de la Sra. Lamm están en el salón 7 para aprender sobre los imanes, la energía de las olas y la electricidad. Debido al día de la nieve de hoy, la guerra de colores se está posponiendo. Puede ser algo que intentaremos antes de que termine el año escolar. ¡Mis disculpas! Los estudiantes estaban tan emocionados de hacer esta actividad. ¡Mañana es el último día para la Guerra del Penique! Nuestra clase no tendrá una fiesta de comida del Día de San Valentín. Trabajaremos en equipos para resolver un problema de San Valentín, aprenderemos quién era San Valentín y veremos las tarjetas del Día de San Valentín de nuestros compañeros. No es un requisito traer tarjetas de San Valentín para los compañeros de clase. Dicho esto, si un estudiante desea traer las tarjetas del Día de San Valentín, debe traer una para cada estudiante de la clase. Si su hijo está incluyendo una golosina con su San Valentín, asegúrese de que no contenga maní y que esté hecho en una facilidad libre de maní. ¡Gracias! Las órdenes de Scholastic Book Club se deben entregar el jueves 14 de febrero, si está interesado en ordenar libros este mes. Nuestro código de clase es P9T8Q. Si su hijo necesita pedir una flauta a la Sra. Karnopp, la fecha límite para ordenarlos es el viernes (mañana).
