Dear Room 7 Families, We just have one more week left for the second trimester. Next Friday, March 1, is the last day of the trimester. When I mentioned this to the students today, a few said, “Already?” Here is what we have been learning about this week: Religion​-The students and I have been comparing these three events: Loaves and Fish, The Last Supper, and the Eucharist at Mass. They have a LOT in common! The students completed their research on St. Charles Randolph Uncles and drew a picture of him. Math​-Fraction Action! That is where we are at!! This week, the lessons have been on adding and subtracting fractions, changing improper fractions (14/4) to mixed numbers (3-2/4), and changing mixed numbers to improper fractions. Reading​-Students need to be finishing their book reports for next week’s sharing. We have started looking closely at nonfiction books and what features they contain (glossary, index, caption, map, chart, cut-aways, photos and diagrams, etc.) Writing​-A few students finished up their Trucker Buddy Jim letter, their Winter Story, and their Persuasive Essays. Some students tried their hand at writing “lipograms” which are short paragraphs that follow a rule. Our rule was to write a four-sentence paragraph using only words that did not have the letter “n” in them. Challenging! (Oops, I mean tough (notice no “n”)). A few students even tried a second paragraph writing with no “e” words! Grammar​-Helping verbs and main verbs were our topics of the week! We compared them to linking verbs. The students also completed their grammar workbook corrections. YIPPEE! Science​-Extreme weather (lightning, hurricanes, tornadoes, others) were discussed this week in class. The Barkhausen Field Trip is coming up on Wednesday, February 27. Please make sure students are dressed for outside activities all day! We will be eating inside the lodge. Remember to send an extra set of clothing in case your child gets wet from melting snow. The students will be bringing home a permission slip for our next field trip. Grades 3-5 are going to the new Farm Wisconsin Discovery Center in Newton, WI. The permission slip will have all the details. Look for yellow papers! March’s Scholastic Reading Club flyers are coming home tomorrow. If you are ordering books for Easter, this would be the order to place. Let me know if you are ordering books for gifts and I will contact you to see how you would like me to get them to you without ruining the surprise. The order forms need to be returned by Friday, March 8th. Thanks! The students will be receiving blessed Rosaries this week Friday. I mixed up the dates. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Next week, each student will be bringing home information about a few mini lessons on Protecting God’s Children that each teacher will be doing in class soon as mandated by the Green Bay Diocese. Our topics will be on friendship and staying safe. After you read the information, please let me know if you have any questions. In the past, the students have enjoyed the lessons! February’s book genre is historical fiction. The students have chosen which day they will be sharing their book reports at the end of the month. Queridas Familias del Salón 7, Solo nos queda una semana más para el segundo trimestre. El próximo viernes 1 de marzo es el último día del trimestre. Cuando mencioné esto a los estudiantes de hoy, algunos dijeron: "¿Ya?" Esto es lo que hemos estado aprendiendo acerca de esta semana: Religión​: los estudiantes y yo hemos estado comparando estos tres eventos: panes y peces, La última cena y la Eucaristía en la misa. ¡Tienen mucho en común! Los estudiantes completaron su investigación sobre St. Charles Randolph Uncles y hicieron un dibujo de él. Matemática:​ Acción de matemáticas fracción! ¡Ahí es donde estamos! Esta semana, las lecciones han sido sobre sumar y restar fracciones, cambiar fracciones impropias (14/4) a números mixtos (3-2 / 4) y cambiar números mixtos a fracciones impropias. Lectura:​ los estudiantes deben estar terminando sus informes de libros para compartir la próxima semana. Hemos comenzado a observar de cerca los libros de no ficción y las características que contienen (glosario, índice, título, mapa, tabla, cortes, fotos y diagramas, etc.) Escritura​: algunos estudiantes terminaron su carta de Trucker Buddy Jim, su historia de invierno y sus ensayos persuasivos. La próxima semana, cada estudiante traerá a casa información sobre unas cuantas mini lecciones sobre Proteger a los niños de Dios que cada maestra hará en clase pronto como lo exige la Diócesis de Green Bay. Nuestros temas serán sobre amistad y seguridad. Después de leer la información, avíseme si tiene alguna pregunta. En el pasado, los estudiantes han disfrutado de las lecciones! El género del libro de febrero es ficción histórica. Los estudiantes han elegido el día en que compartirán sus informes de libros al final del mes.
