Dear Families. Happy Valentine’s Day! Thanks to the students and their families for the special Valentine’s gifts that you gave me today. I was expecting cute Valentine’s Day cards only! Here is what we learned about this week: Religion​-Each class in our school is doing research on a saint for Black History Month. Our saint is St. Charles Randolph Uncles, the first black priest to be ordained on American soil. We have looked at some websites for our research. Next week after Mass each class will share some information about their saint. Math​-The two math classes have begun the unit on Fractions. There will be (or already has been) bright green parent sheets coming home to explain how we will be teaching fractions. Reading​-The students have been reading their historical fiction books when they have extra time. During a few reading classes, the students got into small groups to read about snowflakes in nonfiction and fiction stories. (Bridging reading class and science class together!) Writing​-Each student wrote a new letter to our pen pal, Trucker Buddy Jim. They typed their letters on their Chromebooks. I will be printing the letters and getting them to Trucker Buddy Jim in the next week. Science​-Please ask your child what they have been doing in science class this week. Today is the last day to order from Scholastic Reading Clubs for February, if you are interested in ordering any books. Our class code is P9T8Q. Thanks! February’s book genre is historical fiction. The students have chosen which day they will be sharing their book reports at the end of the month. Monday, February 25-Rachel, Evelyn Tuesday, February 26-Ben F, Josh, Ella, Maya, Beledine Thursday, February 28-Audrey, Hunter, Evy, AJ, Marely Friday, March 1-Ben S, Addison, Maddi M, Alonzo, Dekyren Students who will share when they are finished reading their books-Maddy Y, Cameron, Ryah, Lilly, Deyra Students who have shared already-Michael, Kayla Blessed Rosaries will be given to the students on Friday afternoon. We are having a few people come to talk to us about Rosaries. They will share the Rosaries with our students. If you signed up to be a chaperone for our Barkhausen field coming up on Feb. 26, I will be contacting you by the weekend. There are six adults who have expressed interest and only two chaperones will be needed this time. I will be putting names into a hat and picking two. I will be sending emails to let you know if you were chosen or not. Thanks for your patience.

Queridas familias. ¡Feliz día de San Valentín! Gracias a los estudiantes y sus familias por los regalos especiales de San Valentín que me diste hoy. ¡Esperaba solo lindas tarjetas para el Día de San Valentín! Esto es lo que aprendimos sobre esta semana: Religión:​ cada clase en nuestra escuela está haciendo una investigación sobre un santo para el Mes de la Historia Negra. Nuestro santo es San Carlos Randolph Uncles, el primer sacerdote negro ordenado en suelo estadounidense. Hemos visto algunos sitios web para nuestra investigación. La próxima semana después de la misa, cada clase compartirá información sobre su santo. Matemáticas​: las dos clases de matemáticas han comenzado la unidad de fracciones. Habrá (o ya ha habido) hojas para padres en verde brillante para explicar cómo vamos a enseñar las fracciones. Lectura:​ los estudiantes han estado leyendo sus libros de ficción histórica cuando tienen tiempo adicional. Los viernes se entregarán los rosarios a los estudiantes. Tenemos algunas personas que vienen a hablarnos sobre rosarios. Ellos compartirán los rosarios con nuestros alumnos. Si se inscribió para ser un acompañante en nuestro campo de Barkhausen el 26 de febrero, lo contactaré el fin de semana.
