CHULA VISTA ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DISTRICT 84 East J Street  Chula Vista, CA 91910 2015 SPEECH CONTEST RULES Theme: Using your imagination and creativity, how can you innovate to make the world a better place? As you create your speech, think about how your innovation could positively impact your local community, your state, your country, or the global community. Here are some ideas to consider as you decide on a topic for your speech: *Public education - embedding visual and performing arts? Embed music? *Global warming *Alternative energy *California's drought **Note - the topics that have been referenced serve as a starting point for children. Students are encouraged to select a topic that is meaningful and relevant to them.        

Semifinalists are to arrive at the District’s Education Services and Support Center (84 East J Street) by 1:00 p.m. on the designated semifinal competition date for each grade level: fourth grade – February 25, fifth grade – February 26, sixth grade/Middle School – February 27. Finalists are to arrive at the School District (84 East J Street) by 1:00 p.m. on Monday, March 2, 2015. Speeches are to be three to five minutes in length. Five penalty points will be deducted for speeches under three minutes or over six minutes. Note cards are optional. An optional music stand for notes may be used. No speech should be read verbatim. No props or costumes permitted. Speeches may be given in a language other than English; however, three copies of the English version will be required.

Teachers and parents may support students, but speech must be student’s original work. This means that adults may assist in brainstorming ideas, but should not generate or structure the student’s language. EACH CONTESTANT WILL BE JUDGED ON A FIFTY-POINT SCALE CONTENT (25 Points)

Organization: Opening—Getting the audience’s attention (5) Body—Ideas developed and supported (5) Closing—Does it draw conclusion to ideas presented? (5) How well are ideas developed and supported? (5) Interesting to audience (5)

Consider: Confidence (5) Posture (5) Eye contact (looks at audience) (5) Voice expression/projection (5) Nonverbal (5) In case of a tie, the first tie-breaker will be Content (total points), second tie-breaker will be Poise/Delivery (total points), and third tie-breaker will be Interest.

Valiéndote de tu imaginación y creatividad, ¿cómo puedes innovar para hacer del mundo un lugar mejor? Al componer tu discurso, piensa cómo tu innovación puede afectar positivamente tu comunidad local, tu estado, tu país o la comunidad mundial. Las siguientes son algunas ideas a considerar al decidir sobre un tema para tu discurso: *Educación pública: ¿Incorporar clases de artes visuales y escénicas? ¿Incorporar clases de música? *Calentamiento global *Energía alternativa *La sequía en California

**Nota: Los temas referidos pueden servir como punto de partida para los niños. Se anima a los estudiantes a que elijan un tema significativo y relevante para ellos. 

      

Los semifinalistas deben llegar al área de Education Services and Support Center del Distrito Escolar (84 East J Street) antes de la 1:00 p.m. el día designado para la competencia semifinal de su grado escolar: el 25 de febrero para cuarto grado; el 26 de febrero para quinto grado; el 27 de febrero para sexto grado y grados de secundaria. Los finalistas deben llegar a las oficinas del Distrito Escolar (84 East J Street) antes de la 1:00 p.m. el lunes, 2 de marzo de 2015. Los discursos deben durar entre tres y cinco minutos. Se restarán cinco puntos si el discurso dura menos de tres minutos o más de cinco minutos. Usar tarjetas con apuntes es opcional. Es opcional usar un atril para los apuntes. No se debe leer el discurso palabra por palabra. No se permiten auxiliares visuales o disfraces. Los discursos pueden ser en otros idiomas que no sean inglés; sin embargo se requiere presentar tres copias de la versión en inglés.

Los maestros y padres de familia pueden apoyar a los alumnos, pero el discurso debe ser obra original del alumno. Esto significa que los adultos pueden ayuda a sugerir ideas pero no generar o dar estructura al lenguaje del alumno. A CADA CONCURSANTE SE LE CALIFICARÁ EN UNA ESCALA DE CINCUENTA PUNTOS CONTENIDO (25 puntos)

APLOMO Y ESTILO (25 puntos)

Organización: Inicio. Obtener la atención del público (5) Cuerpo. Desarrollo y apoyo de las ideas (5) Cierre. ¿Se llevan a conclusión las ideas presentadas? (5) ¿Están las ideas bien desarrolladas y apoyadas? (5) Es interesante para el público? (5) Se considera: Confianza (5) Postura (5 puntos) Contacto visual con el público (5) Expresión y proyección de la voz (5) Expresión facial, corporal y ademanes (5)

En caso de un empate, el triunfador se determinará por el contenido (puntuación total), luego el aplomo y estilo (total), por ultimo interés.
