“Enough is Enough” Lines by Layne
“Enough is enough.” I heard this phrase from my mom several times over the years. Usually, it had to do with my brother and I fighting, or perhaps some irritating noise I was making. When I heard that phrase, I knew Mom was at the end of her rope and bad things were going to start happening to various locations on my body. This past week however, this phrase took on a new meaning for me as I considered it in the context of Nauta, Peru. Enough for many Peruvians meant enough food and water for the next meal, or enough room in their homes to just sleep, or enough money in their possession to just make it through the day. For them, enough was enough. They seemed content with what they had, were hospitable to others, and lived life in a simple manner. It seems that for us as Americans however, enough is never enough. Paul wrote to the church in Philippi and said, “I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.” Is enough really enough for you?
