Attention Current 7th Grade Parents/Students: If your student is interested in attending next years New York/DC trip, there is a parent/student meeting next Wednesday, April 17th at 7pm in the Matilija auditorium. 8th Grade Promotion Dance is approaching and we need your help! We are looking for parents to help decorate the gym and need about six 7th grade parent chaperones. [email protected] if you would like to help. Social Media Workshop - The new date for our FREE Social Media Workshop is Tuesday, May 7th from 6:30 - 8:00 pm in the Matilija auditorium. Guest speaker Shane Bruce, MA, LMFT will discuss invaluable skills you need to help your child cope with the pressure and anxiety of using social media, learn about social media and the effects on the brain,engage with other parents in Q & A, and much more. Refreshments will be served. Nordhoff Cheerleading If you are an 8th grader interested in cheering for Nordhoff next year, please come to an informative meeting Monday, April 15th after the lunch play bell in computer Lab 1. Cell Phone Reminder: T his is a friendly reminder that cell phones should remain in backpacks at all times. Students should not be carrying them in their pockets or on their person. Fundraiser: Don’t forget about our ongoing fundraiser - Script. If you purchase groceries (which I know you do), purchase cards from us instead of using your debit card and earn our school money. No fees, no hassle. Go to matiljajuniorhighpto or talk with our Librarian, Arlene Gagnon. Girls/Boys Empowerment Workshops are being offered to all MJHS students. The Empowerment Workshop aims to educate, empower and inspire teens awareness, developing communication skills and cultivating self-respect. Girls will meet every Wednesday in the cafeteria from 1:30-3:00 pm and boys will meet every Monday in the cafeteria from 1:30 - 3:00 p.m. It’s not too late to join. Come by the main office for a required permission slip. 8th Grade Promotion is quickly approaching and we are heading into the last trimester of 8th grade at Matilija. Our promotion policy states if you have 2 F’s, or 1 F and 2 D’s, or 4 D’s you may not participate in any of the promotion activities. These activities include the Eagles Cup Competition, the 8th grade Promotion Dance and the Promotion Ceremony. You must also have a 90 or above in citizenship points. Promotion is scheduled for June 12th at 7 p.m. at the Nordhoff High School field. Poetry and Short Story Contest: The Oak View Women’s Club is sponsoring a Poetry and Short Story Contest for students throughout the Ojai Valley. Come by the main office for rules and entry form. Deadline is April 19th. April Character Trait is Self-Control. Every month we will have a new character trait to recognize students’ good character. This month’s character trait is Self-Control, which means self-discipline. If your student receives an award, have him/her put it in the box in the library for a drawing to win a gift card at the end of the month. Summer Career Camps: The Career Education Center (CEC) in Camarillo is offering amazing camps from July 1-July 26 for grades 6 - 8 and 9-12. Examples of camps being offered: Auto, Aviation, Business, Dental, Film and TV Makeup, Mock Trial, STEM, Video Production, and much, much more. Come by the main office for information or go to http://cec.gosignmeup.com. Young Filmmakers Competition: The deadline to submit your film entries is April 23rd. Wildfire Safety Fair: The Ojai Valley Fire Safe Council want you to learn how to keep your home and family safe. They will be offering a fun free event on Saturday, April 13 from 10am to 2pm at Sarazotti Park. There will be a kid’s fun zone, live music, free raffle with prizes and food and drink. Semana al Vistazo 8 de abril – 12 de abril, 2019 Junta de la Organización de Padres y Maestros (PTO): La próxima reunión general de la junta directiva se llevará a cabo el jueves 18 de abril a las 7 pm. Se está acercando el Baile de Promoción de Octavo Grado y inecesitamos su ayuda! Estamos buscando a padres de familia para ayudarnos a decorar el gimnasio y necesitamos aproximadamente seis padres acompañantes de estudiantes de séptimo grado. El tema de este año es Hollywood y el baile se llevará a cabo el viernes 7 de junio a las 6pm. Talleres de Empoderamiento para niñas y niños s e están ofreciendo a todos los estudiantes de MJHS (Matilija Junior High School). El Taller de Empoderamiento tiene como objetivo de educar, empoderar e inspirar adolescentes a tomar conciencia, a desarrollar habilidades de comunicación y a cultivar el autorespeto. Lo hacemos mediante lecciones interactivas que facilitan el diálogo con mediadores capacitados, enfocados en asuntos asociados con los adolescentes en el mundo de hoy. Las niñas se juntarán cada miércoles en la cafetería de 1:30-3:00 y los niños se juntarán cada lunes en la cafetería de 2:30-4:00. Todavía se pueden registrar!. Pasen por la oficina principal para recoger una nota de permiso obligatoria). Promoción del Octavo Grado se está acercando rápidamente y ya estamos en el último trimestre del octavo grado en Matilija. El reglamento de nuestra promoción declara que si un estudiante tiene 2 F (insuficientes), o 1 F (insuficiente) y 2 D ( regulares), o 4 D (regulares) no puede participar en ninguna de las actividades de promoción. Estas actividades incluyen la Competencia de Eagles Cup, el Baile de Promoción de octavo grado y la Ceremonia de Promoción. El estudiante también debe tener 90 o más puntos de conducta. La Ceremonia de Promoción está prevista para el 12 de junio a las 7pm en el campo de Nordhoff High School. Concurso de Poesía y de Relatos Cortos: E l Oak View Women’s Club está patrocinando un Concurso de Poesía y de Relatos Cortos para estudiantes de todo el Valle de Ojai. Vengan a la oficina principal para las reglas y un formulario de inscripción. La fecha límite es el 19 de abril. La Virtud para abril es el autocontrol. Cada mes tendremos una nueva virtud para dar la oportunidad a los estudiantes de demostrar su buen carácter. La virtud de este mes es el autocontrol lo que significa la autodisciplina. Si notamos que su estudiante pone en práctica el autocontrol, le daremos un boleto de sorteo de “Autocontrol.” Por favor haga que su estudiante coloque su boleto dentro de la caja designada en la biblioteca para poder ganar una tarjeta de regalo en un sorteo al fin del mes. Campamentos Veraniegos de Profesiones: The Career Education Center (CEC) (un centro de educación vocacional) en Camarillo está ofreciendo increíbles campamentos del 1 de julio - 26 de julio para grados 6 - 8 y 9 - 12.
