Dear Family, Today my class started the Place Value chapter. I will be learning to compare and order numbers through thousands. I will also be learning to round numbers through hundreds. Here are my vocabulary words that I will be using during my lessons. Love, p.s. place value: the value given to a digit by its place in a number 7 is in the thousands place in this number: 7,568 round: to change the value of a number to one that is easier to work with 6,871 rounded to the nearest hundred is 6,900 expanded form: The representation of a number as a sum that shows the value of each digit. Example: 536 is written as 500 + 30 + 6
standard form: The usual way of writing a number that shows only its digits, no words. Example: 23, 596, 5,012 word form: The form of a number that uses written words. Example: 2,423 is written as two thousand, four hundred twenty-three

• Find numbers through 1,000 in the newspapers and magazines. • Cut out the numbers. • Compare and order the numbers you find. • Glue the numbers on paper in ord er from greatest to least.
