This 20th of May, the Day of the Republic, is a date of much significance for all Cubans, especially those who are members of the Resistance, inside and outside of the island, who fight for democracy and freedom. It is with a patriotic jubilee that we celebrate the proclamation of independence of our nation after long and difficult years of struggle and sacrifice on behalf of the Mambises, our independence fighters. That 20th of May of 1902, the Cuban people emotionally witnessed the raising and waving of that majestic and beautiful national flag, the same one which accompanied our compatriots out in the redeeming fields during their battles for freedom and independence. On an occasion such as this, we cannot forget to send our sincere and cordial regards to all those friends of the cause of a free Cuba, especially to the Heritage Foundation which has given so much support to the noble causes against any form of totalitarianism and oppression. During this very moment, throughout all of Cuba, the forces of the Resistance, under the convocation of the Orlando Zapata Tamayo National Resistance and Civil Disobedience Front have carried out public demonstrations throughout important towns and cities of the country. These activities, which have been carried out under the Boitel-Zapata Live campaign, which is taking place from May 13th to the 25th, show how much the democratic forces of the country have matured and united in action. Parallel to this important awakening of consciousness of a people who resist and refuse to continue living without freedom, the forces of the Castro-Communist dictatorship have increased their repressive measures against the Cuban people and pro-democracy activists, beating women, threatening to sexually assault them and their small children, surrounding their homes, and confining them to house arrest, proving that they are very fearful of public actions out on the streets as part of the We Are All Resistance and The Streets Belong to the People campaigns. All these repressive politics are increasing, while various governments and personalities who consider themselves democratic are openly flirting with our repressors, whether it is by visiting the island to meet with our victimizers and ignoring the victims, or by attempting to legitimize the Castro regime in international forums. Meanwhile, it is alarming that while activism and Resistance is increasing inside Cuba and while repression also increases, the government of Mr. Barack Obama has exercised a political agenda of approach and relaxation with the regime of Havana, instead of strengthening the support for the Resistance. The struggle continues, however, there is no doubt about that. Boitel and Zapata Live! Este 20 de mayo, día de la Republica, es una fecha de mucho significado para todos los cubanos, de manera especial para los miembros de la Resistencia que dentro y fuera de Cuba luchan por la democracia y libertad plena. Con patriótico júbilo celebramos la proclamación de la independencia de nuestra patria, tras largos y difíciles años de lucha y sacrifico de los heroicos Mambises. Aquel 20 de mayo de 1902, el pueblo cubano vio con emoción el erizar y el ondeo de nuestra majestuosa y hermosa bandera nacional, la que tantas veces acompaño a nuestros compatriotas en las maniguas redentoras durante sus batallas por la libertad e independencia. En una ocasión como esta, no podemos pasar por alto nuestros sinceros y cordiales saludos a todos los amigos de la causa de la libertad de Cuba, de manera especial a la Heritage Foundation, que tanto respaldo brinda a las nobles causas contra todas formas de totalitarismo y de opresión. En estos momentos, a lo largo y ancho de Cuba, las fuerzas de la Resistencia, convocadas por el Frente Nacional de Resistencia Cívica y Desobediencia Civil Orlando Zapata Tamayo estremecen con acciones públicas y contestatarias las calles de importantes pueblos y ciudades a través del país. Estas actividades, dentro del marco de la Jornada Boitel-Zapata Viven que se efectúa desde el 13 hasta el 25 de mayo, son constitutivos de cuanto han madurado y se han unido en acción los demócratas dentro del país. Paralelo a este importante despertar de la conciencia de un pueblo que se resiste a continuar viviendo sin libertad, las fuerzas de la dictadura castro-comunista arrecia la represión contra el pueblo y los activistas pro-democráticos, golpean las mujeres, las amenazan con violarlas sexualmente a ellas y sus pequeños hijos, sitian las viviendas condenándolos activistas a reclusiones domiciliarías, demostrando con ello cuanto les preocupa y cuanto temen a las acciones en las calles, como parte de las campañas Todos Somos Resistencia y Las Calles Son Del Pueblo. Toda esta política represiva arrecia mientras varios gobiernos y personalidades que se dicen ser democráticos coquetean abiertamente con nuestros represores, ya sea visitando la isla para reunirse con los victimarios e ignorando las victimas, ya sea intentando a legitimizar al régimen castrista en foros internacionales. Llama poderosamente la atención que en los precisos momentos en que aumenta el activismo y la resistencia dentro de Cuba, y en que incrementa la represión, el gobierno del señor Barack Obama realiza una política de acercamientos y flexibilizaciones con la Habana, en vez de fortalecer el apoyo y cercamiento con la Resistencia. La lucha continua, que no quepa duda. ¡Boitel y Zapata Viven!
