April is Autism Awareness Month! We are celebrating all children by talking about kindness! In  class 1-215, we read, “Can I play Too” by Mo Willems and discussed how it is important to be  kind to others. We colored a Puzzle Piece and wrote ways to be be kind to everyone on our  Puzzle Pieces.     

 

Eli and Albert from    class 1-215 work  together to talk  about animal  adaptations in Science  class. 

 

 

 

 

 

Reading  Students are reading fairy tales from around the world. Each week the students will compare and contrast well known fairy tales with different versions from around the world. Students not only will compare and contrast the stories, they will look for similarities and differences in the characters by thinking about character traits. When reading at home with your child, you can ask them about character traits by encouraging them to think about what the character does, what the character thinks, how the character feels, and what the character says.

 

Writing Students are exploring the genre of opinion writing. They are writing to share how they feel, what they think or believe about a topic of interest. They are naming their opinion and supporting their opinion with reasons and facts. Encourage them to share their opinion with you about things like their favorite books or games and ask them to explain why to expand their thinking. One thing you can do at home is remind your child that if he or she can say it, then he or she can write it!

Math 

 

Grade 1 Module 4: ​Place Value, Comparison, Addition and Subtraction to 40 Module 4 explores the concepts of place value in two digit numbers. In the beginning of the unit, students explore what it means to turn a group of ones into a ten. They are using critical thinking to discover how a number grid can be used to show one more, one less, ten more, and ten less. As the unit progresses, students are using greater than and less than symbols to compare larger numbers. Students will also learn how to add and subtract within 40. Encourage your child to talk about their mathematical learning by asking them to compare two amounts and explain their thinking about place value.

  Sección de estudiantes  Abril es el mes de la conciencia del autismo! ¡Estamos celebrando a todos los niños hablando de bondad!  En la clase 1-215, leemos, "Can I play Too" de Mo Willems y comentamos lo importante que es ser amable  con los demás. Coloreamos una pieza de rompecabezas y escribimos formas de ser amables con todos en  nuestras piezas de rompecabezas.     

 

Eli y Albert de la    clase 1-215 trabajan  juntos para hablar  sobre las adaptaciones  de los animales en la  clase de ciencias. 

 

 

 

 

 

Lectura  Los estudiantes están leyendo cuentos de hadas de todo el mundo. Cada semana, los estudiantes compararán y contrastarán cuentos de hadas conocidos con diferentes versiones de todo el mundo. Los estudiantes no solo compararán y contrastarán las historias, sino que buscarán similitudes y diferencias en los personajes al pensar en los rasgos de los personajes. Al leer en casa con su hijo, puede preguntarles sobre los rasgos del personaje animándolos a pensar qué hace el personaje, qué piensa el personaje, cómo se siente el personaje y qué dice el personaje.

 

Escritura Los estudiantes están explorando el género de la escritura de opinión. Escriben para compartir cómo se sienten, qué piensan o creen sobre un tema de interés. Nombran su opinión y la apoyan con razones y hechos. Anímelos a compartir su opinión con usted acerca de cosas como sus libros o juegos favoritos y pídales que expliquen por qué expandir su pensamiento. Una cosa que puede hacer en casa es recordarle a su hijo que si él o ella puede decirlo, ¡entonces él o ella puede escribirlo!

 

Matemáticas  Grado 1 Módulo 4: ​Valor de posición, comparación, suma y resta al 40 El módulo 4 explora los conceptos de valor de posición en números de dos dígitos. Al comienzo de la unidad, los estudiantes exploran lo que significa convertir un grupo de unos en diez. Utilizan el pensamiento crítico para descubrir cómo se puede usar una cuadrícula numérica para mostrar uno más, uno menos, diez más y diez menos. A medida que la unidad avanza, los estudiantes usan símbolos mayores y menores que para comparar números más grandes. Los estudiantes también aprenderán cómo sumar y restar dentro de los 40.
