Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time: Today we are afforded the opportunity to sit back like Mary did and listen to the Lord speak. We hear the Lord speak to Abraham, assuring him that his wife, Sarah, will finally bear a son. We hear the Lord speak to Martha and Mary, assuring them of the importance of listening and learning. We hear the Lord speak, as we do each Sunday, in the breaking of the bread. Let us listen and hear what the Lord says to us. Decimosexto Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario: Hoy se nos brinda la oportunidad de relajarnos, como hizo María, y escuchar al Señor. Escuchamos al Señor cuando le habla a Abraham y le asegura que él y su esposa Sara tendrán un hijo. In this Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus affirms that to be a disciple we must also sit at his feet and listen to him. St. Vincent de Paul taught that it is only in prayer that we can give selfless loving service to those who are poor. This week, please say a special prayer each day for the poor and forgotten in our community. During the month of June, through your financial support, our Conference brought the love and care of Jesus to those in need by assisting 42 families with housing expense, utility bills, food, and other expenses. Thank you! En el Evangelio de hoy, cuando Jesús afirma que para ser discípulos también debemos sentarnos a sus pies y escucharlo. San Vicente de Paul enseno que solo en la oración podemos ofrecer un servicio desinteresado y amoroso a los pobres. Without education they will not have hope or future. With permission from the Bishop of Austin Diocese I make my annual Mission Appeal in three different parishes to pay for the salaries of the teachers of 2 schools primary and high school, pay for new books and uniforms for the children and maintain the buildings. As our Lord said, “whatever you do for the least of my brothers (and sisters), you do it for me”. Please do give generously and be partner in my mission and you shall be rewarded abundantly. “Some give by going to the missions; some go by giving to the missions, without both there are no missions.” I am very grateful to God, our Bishop, your pastor and you my brothers and sisters in advance. Basic Teachings of the Catholic Faith St. John will be hosting the 5-session course focusing on the Basic Teachings of the Catholic Church. This course is highly recommended for those in Church Ministry, Catechist, Prayer Group leaders and anyone who wants to know more about our faith. The courses will be offered in English and in Spanish each Saturday of August beginning August 3 at 9 am. Those planning to attend are encouraged to preregister to ensure we have ample materials.
