On behalf of the Framingham United Soccer Club (FUSC) Board of Directors, welcome back for another soccer season! If this is your first season with FUSC – Welcome to the Club and the Family! I hope you had a successful start to the new school year and are ready for a great soccer season. The season starts on Saturday, September 8. Each season provides an opportunity to grow as a parent, coach, player, team and community. It’s a good time to reflect on why we are involved in youth sports – its not just about “winning the game” its also about being active and learning life lessons. My favorites include: hard work, teamwork, fair play, and a positive attitude. This newsletter contains several noteworthy items as we start the season. FUSC In-Town Soccer Fair (Grades 1-4)

FUSC’s Mission Founded in 1975, FUSC is a Massachusetts non-profit organization whose purpose is to foster and assist the development of soccer and to promote and encourage social, civic, educational and athletic activities. FUSC is organized and run on a voluntary basis by dedicated people who have an interest in soccer, wish to promote the development of the sport, and want to provide a structured but enjoyable activity for its member players. FUSC is dedicated to the ongoing development of youth soccer players, coaches, and referees, in an inclusive, safe, affordable and fun environment. In partnership with Massachusetts Youth Soccer, we strive to create a lifelong passion and love for the game..

SAFETY FIRST ON THE SOCCER FIELD Please remember that safety is a top priority at all of the FUSC playing fields and parking areas. All coaches are issued coach identification so that they are clearly identified on our fields. Please be careful and watch your driving speed entering and exiting the parking areas. Please park in only designated parking areas. Also, please have your children use the buddy system when at the fields including trips to the bathroom. If you see something say something!

ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY FUSC strictly adheres to the “Zero Tolerance”. This means that parents and coaches should not treat youth games like the World Cup! Enjoy it for what it is - a game that the kids are having fun playing. All coaches, parents and spectators shall support the referee. Failure to do so will undermine the referee’s authority and has the potential of creating a hostile environment for the players, the referee, and others. Please keep positive support for all involved in the game. We must respect each other and the game. So if you see someone acting out, speak up respectfully, and politely remind them of the “Zero Tolerance” policy! Please do not hesitate to approach any FUSC Director with comments or questions. We will continue to do our best to give your kids a terrific soccer experience.

2018-2019 FUSC PETER TIMONEY COACH'S AWARD FUSC is now accepting nominations for the 2018-2019 Peter Timoney Award. This coach’s award is presented annually to a coach who best exemplifies the sportsmanship traits of Peter Timoney, who passed away in October of 1999. Criteria for the Peter Timoney coach's award: 1.) Respects family life (understands the whole child), 2.) Demonstrates and expects respect for all involved in the game, 3.) Equal opportunities for all players to grow and be challenged, 4.) Maintains a positive attitude, 5.) Encourages self-discipline, 6.) Organized, 7.) Communicates well with families and players, 8.) Role Model, 9.) Makes soccer fun, 10.) Exemplifies the "spirit of sportsmanship".

2019 FUSC BOARD OF DIRECTOR APPLICATION DUE NOVEMBER 1! The 2019 FUSC Board of Director application is currently available on the FUSC website. Applications are due November 1, 2018. FUSC is always looking for members of the community who are looking to get involved in FUSC – as a coach, a member of the Board of Directors or Age Director. FUSC SOCCER FAIR FUSC’s annual Soccer Fair is scheduled for Sunday, September 23. This is a fun event for in town teams grades 1-4. There will be a tournament like atmosphere with games, food and fun. To learn more about the event and ways that you can help, please email [email protected]
