DEIC Minutes Call to Order: Leticia Cadena, DEIC Chair, called the meeting to order on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at 3:30 pm in the Manuel Guerra Auditorium.

Mrs. Leticia Cadena welcomed the members to the meeting and introduced the community members.



PBMAS results were shared with the members by Program Directors. o Mrs. Melizza Galvan shared PBMAS for Special Ed and shared concern that there were several indicators with high numbers, meaning that there is a probability of being staged. She assured the committee that steps are being taken to address the situation. o Mrs. Cadena presented on Mrs. Celia Guerra (PBMAS for Bilingual Ed) behalf and shared concern that there were several indicators with high numbers, meaning that there is a probability of being staged. She assured the committee that steps are being taken to address the situation. o Mr. Carlos Gonzalez shared PBMAS for Career and Technology Education. He stated that the only concern is with the completion rate for males is lower than females. TEA will be visiting the high school in the Fall. o Mrs. Cruz, Federal Programs Director, shared No Child Left Behind Report and informed the committee that NCLB will no longer be used; instead, The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) will go into effect this year.



Roma ISD District Accountability results where shared with the district. Mr. Martinez congratulated all campus as a result of Met Standard ratings and to those who received Distinction Designation and System Safeguards. Mrs. Yadira Diaz acknowledged all campuses for having a high attendance rate and advised them to continue with the effort to have all students attend school every day. She also reminded teachers that the PLC are still part of district’s initiative to increase student learning. Mr. Oscar Ramirez reported on House Bill 5 reminding committee members that Index 5 focuses on community engagement and will count 10% of overall standings. Roma ISD was awarded the Pre-K Grant for 2016-2017 school year, Committee members were also reminded to complete suicide training by September 30, 2016. There is currently trademark lawsuit against several school districts, not Roma ISD, regarding the use of “Millionaire Readers” focusing on AR. He reminded members not to use this and to share with their campus administration and teachers.





Adjournment: Leticia Cadena thanked the members for attending and adjourned the meeting. Next meeting will be held on November 2, 2016 in the Manuel Guerra Auditorium at 3:30 p.m.
