El texto del Evangelio de Lucas va directamente al tema de la posesión de bienes, para advertir de no poner en ellos “la vida”, pues al final del día, cuando llegue la noche, ya no se tratará de entregar cuentas claras respecto a cosechas o graneros, por más que se hayan ampliado. En esa hora sólo cuenta la vida y de ello se pedirá cuentas a todos, los bienes serán para otros, ése es su destino original.

The text of the Gospel of Luke goes directly to the issue of the possession of goods, to warn of not putting "life" in them, because at the end of the day, when the night comes, it will no longer be a matter of delivering clear accounts regarding crops or barns, even if they have expanded. At that time only life counts and everyone will be asked for their own accounts, the goods will be for others, that is their original destiny.

Los bienes, según el designio originario de Dios, son para la comunión, para la convivencia humana. El egoísmo los ha acaparado como don privado y de uso exclusivo, con ello ha roto la comunidad de bienes, ha generado la división de clases, la injusticia, la pobreza y otros tantos males. Desde la visión de Dios esto equivale a un fracaso, pues se ha invertido el orden de la creación, se ha olvidado el origen y la meta de todo, se ha suprimido al Creador y con ello el fin para el cual fueron dadas todas las cosas a las personas. Practiquemos la comunión de bienes.

The goods, according to God's original design, for human coexistence. Selfishness has monopolized them as a private and exclusive use gift, thereby breaking the community of goods, generating class division, injustice, poverty and many other evils. From God's vision this amounts to a failure, since the order of creation has been reversed, the origin and goal of everything has been forgotten, the Creator has been suppressed and with it the end for which all things were given to the people. Let's practice the communion of goods.

¿Crees que la avaricia tiene algo que ver con la condición social en la que uno se encuentra? ¿Eres consciente de que lo que tienes viene de Dios, o te sientes dueño absoluto de tus bienes?

Do you think that greed has something to do with the social condition in which we are? Are you aware that what you have comes from God, or do you feel you are the absolute owner of your goods?

De ti proceden, Señor, las riquezas y la gloria. Tú lo gobiernas todo; en tu mano están el poder y la fortaleza, y es tu mano la que todo lo engrandece y a todo da consistencia. Pues bien, oh Dios nuestro, te celebramos y alabamos tu Nombre magnífico. Amén.

From you come, Lord, riches and glory. You rule everything; in your hand are power and strength, and it is your hand that magnifies everything and gives consistency. Well, oh our God, we celebrate and praise your magnificent Name. Amen.

 Quick reminder: we’re still registering children for first communion and confirmation. Please contact our Parish office for more information. We will be registering until the end of August. Classes will begin in September. Its very important that you bring the certificate of Baptism if the child is baptized or the birth certificate if the child is not baptized. Registrations will close on September 1, 2019.  If you would like to leave a great image in the memories of a child or teenager in our Parish and is interested on becoming a Catechist stop by our office and let us know. Hoy es la fiesta de San Juan Maria Vianney, el cura de Ars, Patrono de los Sacerdotes y Parrocos

Today we celebrate St. John Mary Vianney, Patron of Priests

El 4 de agosto la Iglesia celebra a San Juan Bautista María Vianney o Cura de Ars, por el nombre del pueblo en Francia donde sirvió por muchos años.

On August 4, the Church celebrates the feast day of St. John Vianney, patron of priests.

Es el patrono de los párrocos y se le considera un gran confesor, tenía el don de profecía, recibía ataques físicos del demonio y vivió entregado a la mortificación y la oración. Este año se celebran los 201 años de su ordenación sacerdotal que se realizó el 13 de agosto de 1815. Su gran amor por la salvación de las almas lo llevaba a pasar muchas horas en el confesionario donde arrebata varias almas al demonio. Era desprendido de las cosas materiales, al punto que dormía en el suelo de su cuarto porque regaló la cama. Comía papas y de vez en cuando un huevo hervido. Solía decir que “el demonio no le teme tanto a la disciplina y a las camisas de pelo; lo que realmente teme es a la reducción de comida, bebida y sueño". Una vez el demonio hizo temblar su casa por 15 minutos, en otra ocasión quiso sacarlo de la Misa e incendió su cama, pero el santo mandó a otras personas a apagar el fuego y él no dejó el altar. Por horas el enemigo hacía ruidos para no dejar dormir al santo, y hasta le gritaba debajo de la ventana: "Vianney, Vianney come papas". Una de las secuelas de la revolución en Francia, fue la ignorancia religiosa. Para remediar esta situación el Santo pasaba noches enteras en la pequeña sacristía componiendo y memorizando sus sermones, pero al no tener muy buena memoria, le costaba retener lo que escribía. Instruía a los niños en el catecismo y luchó para que la gente no trabajara o estuviera en las tabernas los domingos. En una de sus homilías dijo que "la taberna es la tienda del demonio, el mercado donde las almas se pierden, donde se rompe la armonía familiar”. Poco a poco logró que la taberna se cierre y que gente se acercar a Dios.

Su popularidad fue creciendo y llegaban miles de personas al pueblo de todas partes para confesarse con él. Más adelante se concedió al pueblo el permiso de construir una Iglesia, lo que garantizaría la permanencia del santo. Su tierno amor por la Virgen María llevó a que consagre su parroquia a la Reina del Cielo. A las 2 a.m. del sábado 4 de Agosto de 1859, el Santo cura de Ars partió a la Casa del Padre. Fue canonizado en la fiesta de Pentecostés de 1925 por el Papa Pío XI.

John Vianney, also known as the Holy Curé de Ars, was born May 8, 1786 in Dardilly, near Lyon, France to a family of farmers. He was ordained a priest in 1815 and became curate in Ecully. He was then sent to the remote French community of Ars in 1818 to be a parish priest. Upon his arrival, the priest immediately began praying and working for the conversion of his parishioners. Although he saw himself as unworthy of his mission as pastor, he allowed himself to be consumed by the love of God as he served the people. Vianney slowly helped to revive the community’s faith through both his prayers and the witness of his lifestyle. He gave powerful homilies on the mercy and love of God, and it is said that even staunch sinners were converted upon hearing him. In addition, he restored his church, formed an orphanage, “La Providence,” and cared for the poor. His reputation as a confessor grew rapidly, and pilgrims traveled from all over France to come to him in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Firmly committed to the conversion of the people, he would spend up to 16 hours a day in the confessional. Plagued by many trials and besieged by the devil, the St. John Vianney remained firm in his faith, and lived a life of devotion to God. Dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament, he spent much time in prayer and practiced much mortification. He lived on little food and sleep, while working without rest in unfailing humility, gentleness, patience and cheerfulness, until he was well into his 70s. John Vianney died on August 4, 1859. Over 1,000 people attended his funeral, including the bishop and priests of the diocese, who already viewed his life as a model of priestly holiness. The Holy Curé of Ars was canonized by Pope Pius XI in 1925. He is the patron of priests. Over 450,000 pilgrims travel to Ars every year in remembrance of his holy life. In 2009, Pope Benedict XVI, commemorating the 150th anniversary of St. John Vianney’s death, declared the Year for Priests. The Pope wrote a Letter to Clergy, encouraging all priests to look to the Curé of Ars as an example of dedication to one’s priestly calling.
