This is the first three-day weekend of the summer – something we can all appreciate! But it is important not to lose sight of the significance of Memorial Day. There is a temptation to enjoy this holiday without considering the sacrifices of the men and women of our Armed Forces who laid down their lives for the good of our country. When I was a teenager, I had the opportunity to visit Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day. Seeing the countless tombstones of fallen soldiers made an impression upon me. Since that day I have not taken for granted the freedoms I enjoy or the blessing of living in this privileged country.

Este es el primer fin de semana del verano – ¡algo que todos podemos apreciar! Pero es importante no perder de vista la importancia del Memorial Day. Hay una tentación de disfrutar este día festivo sin pensar en los sacrificios de los hombres y mujeres de nuestras fuerzas armadas que entregaron su vida por el bien de nuestro país. Cuando yo era adolescente tuve la oportunidad de visitar el Cementerio Nacional de Arlington en el Memorial Day. Ver el número incontable de tumbas de los soldados caídos me impresionó. Desde ese día no he tomado a la ligera la libertad de la que disfruto o las bendiciones de vivir en este país privilegiado.

Our nation faces tremendous difficulties, and the injustices in our land are many. That is one reason we should take seriously Memorial Day. The men and women who died to defend the United States are a reminder: sometimes we have to sacrifice heroically in order to build up our nation and contribute to the greater good. This Memorial Day is an opportunity for us to ponder the incredible struggles required to forge and preserve the United States over these past 243 years. It is also an opportunity to think about what we can do as individuals and as a Church to lift up our country in this chapter of its history. May the Lord bless you throughout the upcoming week.

Nuestra nación enfrenta tremendas dificultades, y las injusticias en nuestra tierra son muchas. Esa es una razón por la que debemos tomar en serio el Memorial Day. Los hombres y mujeres que murieron para defender los Estados Unidos son un recordatorio. Algunas veces tenemos que sacrificarnos heroicamente para construir nuestra nación y contribuir a un bien mayor. Este Memorial Day es una oportunidad para reconocer los esfuerzos increíbles que han forjado y preservado este país en los últimos 243 anos. News from the Knights of Columbus: Thanks to all of the donors who gave blood last weekend. We collected 19 pints and saved 57 lives! Save the date for the next blood drive: Sunday, July 14. Also, let’s congratulate the Knights of Columbus for placing 7th in the state for donations for the seminarians. Thank you to all of the parishioners that have donated to this worthy cause when there are five Sundays in the month.

Appalachian Project Car Wash: Come and have your car washed! Youth from the Appalachian Project will provide a quality car wash on Saturday, June 1, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the main church parking lot to help with their funding efforts. (This event is bilingual.)

How do we build a vibrant culture that ministers to present and future generations? What is God calling me to do? All Saints Academy Catholic School The final week of school is here! On Tuesday, we will have Field Day in the morning and our annual and Staff vs. Eighth Grade volleyball game in the afternoon. On Wednesday, Third through Fifth graders will be at the Skating Rink while the Sixth through Eighth graders will Science Day. On Thursday, we will have our final school Mass, as well as Eighth Grade Graduation and the Honors Assembly. On Friday, we will send the kids home at 1:00 p.m., giving them an early start on summer vacation.
