Building the Family of God - Ephesians 2:19-22

WHO WE ARE

First Presbyterian Church is a reformed, confessional, ordinary means of grace congregation that exists to exalt God, edify the saints, evangelize the lost, and extend the love, mercy, and mission of Christ locally and around the world.

Reformed: We find our roots in the 16th century Protestant Reformation and affirm the five solas of the Reformation: Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone), Sola Fide (Faith Alone), Solus Christus (Christ Alone), Sola Gratia (Grace Alone) and Soli Deo Gloria (To the Glory of God Alone). Confessional: As a member church of the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA), we embrace and confess that the doctrine found in the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Shorter and Larger Catechism is the most faithful summary of scriptural teaching. The PCA’s slogan encapsulates well our beliefs: “Faithful to the Scriptures, True to the Reformed Faith, Obedient to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.”

of

Ordinary Means of Grace: We believe God builds His Church and promises to bless Her

through His ordinary means of grace, which are: the Word (especially preaching), Sacraments (biblically regulated worship), and Prayer.

Where is History Going? ¿Dónde Está la Historia Dr. Steve Hoke

SUNDAY EVENING

Final Mission Conference Service 2016 Dr. Andrew J. DiNardo

Morning

Today’s Worship

This Sunday, we are closing our annual, week-long focus on the missionary work of FPC around the world. Our Missions Conference theme is As the Father Has Sent Me, Even So I Am Sending You, in which we have been highlighting the ongoing work of our missionary associates around the world. Preaching today is Rev. Dr. Steve Hoke, who is responsible for mentoring several mission leaders, helping them to be more effective as they lead their respective missionaries who serve under them. Many of these missionaries serve in very difficult parts of the world. He will be preaching a sermon titled, Where is History Going? To Dance, to Suffer, to Pack Heaven with Worshippers, based on the book of Revelation, chapters 4-7. Rev. Dr. Steve Hoke also spoke to our combined Sunday school at 9:30 AM. As has been confirmed by all the missions oriented events of this past week, we can be greatly encouraged as we see and hear of the spread of the Gospel around the world as a result of God’s blessings on FPC’s missionary outreach. We will be taking up our Missions Faith Promise this morning in order to continue that work. Faith Promise giving involves our promise to: 1) give and pray as God enables us, 2) give over and above our regular tithes and offerings, and 3) exercise faith as we trust that God will enable us to fulfill our promise. What we promise through Mission Faith Promise funds our missions work throughout the world. Please give generously to the work of the spread of Christ’s gospel around the world! We close our service this morning with Mighty to Save by Reuben Morgan and Ben Fielding. Laura Story, whose rendition led to this song being nominated for a GMA Dove Award, often thinks of Zephaniah 3:17a, which says: “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save.” She said, “Each time I sing the song, God brings to mind new implications of this verse. And each time, I get a little lump in my throat as I consider that by His might, God saved me. It’s hard to fathom why a God who is able to move mountains would choose to focus His strength on redeeming the very souls who have so deeply offended Him. But this is the gospel.  Though we have done nothing to merit His favor, God, full of mercy and grace, sent His only son, Jesus, to pay the debt we could never pay. He is truly mighty to save.” Please join us as we declare our mighty salvation in Jesus Christ, our Lord.

“Shine your light, and let the whole world see. We’re singing for the glory of the risen King, Jesus.”

Evening Tonight, Pastor Drew DiNardo, will be giving a missions exhortation based on various Scriptures, beginning in Genesis 12. Please join us for this final service of our 2016 Missions Conference as we celebrate the theme: As the Father Has Sent Me, Even So I Am Sending You. We are very blessed to have two of our wonderfully talented CSCA teachers, Mr. Hedley Linton, tenor, and Mrs Patrice Brown, alto, join our choir in a beautiful arrangement of the classic hymn, I Surrender All. This arrangement, along with this morning’s anthem, Witness, and last Sunday evening’s Shut de Do, have all been especially arranged for our Missions Conference by Joy Wilson Poole, who is also on our Missions Committee. Join us afterward for dessert in the Breezeway!

Missionary associate of the week You heard it said this past Sunday, over fifty years ago when the PCA (our church denomination) was founded, three principles were adopted to describe the character of all PCA churches. These three are: Faithful to the Scriptures, True to the Reformed Faith, and Obedient to the Great Commission. This is who we are as a denomination. Here at First Pres., we have not only adopted these three principles, but added something more. We are not just obedient to the Great Commission, we have named ourselves an Intentional Missionary Congregation, that is, we are intentional in the implementation of the Great Commission. This is why we partner with a minimum of twenty-one Missionary Associates. This is why we have an annual Missions Conference. This is why we have Mission Faith Promise giving. This is why we pray each Sunday morning and evening for one of our Missionary Associates and finally, this is why we have an active Missions Committee that meets every month to insure the church’s mission intentionality. It is our firm conviction that all of this is important in the life of the church to keep us true to our convictions. Too often, history will show how easy it is for churches to forget their rich doctrinal and missional heritage. Even though the banners and flags will be taken down and stored for later use, we must remain firm throughout the year in our commitment to taking God’s Word to the Lost wherever they are found. This is what the Lord wants us to be and do. This is a good time for that reminder.

VERSE 6

Confession of Sin/Confesión de Pecado Most merciful Father, we have sinned against You and stand guilty before Your throne. Forgive us the sins of our tongues - For deception and untruthfulness in our dealings with others; for resentment, coldness, impatience, and tempers out of control. Forgive us the sins of our eyes For impurity in our glances and imagination; for pining after more beauty, comfort, status, and wealth than You have given us. Forgive us the sins of our hearts - For hard-heartedness toward You and our neighbors; for pride, self-absorption, self-pity; and above all for rebelling against Your Lordship and doubting Your love. Please, Holy Father, kill our envy, remove our pride, melt our hearts. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. Assurance of Pardon/Aseguramiento del Perdon Psalm 103:11-12 As high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” * Denotes congregation standing/Denota Congregación de Pie

* Confession of Faith (from the Westminster Confession Part II) We believe our first parents, though created in knowledge, righteousness, and holiness, sinned against God, by eating the forbidden fruit; and that their fall brought mankind into an estate of sin and misery; We believe God determined, out of His mere good pleasure, to deliver His elect out of the estate of sin and misery, and to bring them into an estate of salvation by a Redeemer; We believe the only Redeemer of God’s elect is the Lord Jesus Christ, who, being the eternal Son of God, became man, and so was, and continues to be, God and man in two distinct natures, and one person, forever; We believe Christ, as our Redeemer, executes the office of a prophet, of a priest, and of a king. We believe Christ, as our Redeemer, underwent the miseries of this life, the wrath of God, the cursed death of the cross, and burial; and We believe He rose again from the dead on the third day, ascended up into heaven, sits at the right hand of God the Father, and is coming to judge the world at the last day. Amen.

* The Gloria Patri/La Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen. Amen. Gloria al Padre, al Hijo y al Espíritu Santo; como lo era en el principio, ahora y siempre será, mundo sin fin. Amén. Amén. Halloran/Poole Who’ll be a witness for my Lord? I’ll be a witness for my Lord. There was a man of the Pharisees, his name was Nicodemus and he didn’t believe. The same came to Christ by night, wanted to be taught out of human sight. Nicodemus was a man who desired to know how a man can be born when he’s old. Christ told Nicodemus as a friend, “Man, you must be born again.” He said, “Marvel not, man, if you want to be wise, repent, believe and be baptized.” Then you’ll be a witness for my Lord. We read about Samson, from his birth he was the strongest man that ever lived on earth. Way back yonder in ancient times he killed ten thousand of the Philistines. Then old Samson went a wandrin’ about. Samson’s strength was never found out. ‘Til his wife sat upon his knee, she said, “Tell me where your strength lies, if you please!” Well old Samson’s wife, she talked so fair, Samson said, “Cut offa my hair!” Samson was a witness for my Lord. Soul is a witness for my Lord. There’s another witness for my Lord! My soul is a witness for my Lord! The Sanctuary Choir El Coro del Santuario
