Temporary Tattoo Shop (A): Tuesday, January 24th, 7PM. In honor of the Field Museum’s Tattoo exhibit, patrons will be invited to create and try various methods of DIY temporary tattoos. Morse Code Jewelry Workshop (A): Tuesday, January 31st, 7PM. Make yourself a bracelet or a necklace with a secret meaning. We will use different shaped beads to represent the dashes and dots of Morse Code. Taste Test Tuesday (A): Tuesday, February 7th, 7PM. The Life of Margaret Burroughs (A): Tuesday, February 21st, 7PM. Alice Collins will join us for her portrayal of Margaret Burroughs, founder of the DuSable Museum of African American History in Chicago. This event was made possible thanks to the Illinois Humanities Council’s Road Scholar Program.

The Anti-Slavery Movement in Black & White (A): Tuesday, February 28th, 7PM. Jeanne Schultz Angel will be here to talk about the wide variety of motivations that might lie behind any given individual’s opposition to slavery – commitment to human rights, belief in racial equality, economic considerations, and religious convictions.

Creative Nonsense (YA): Every Monday, 6-8PM. Teen Open Studio. Be a part of ongoing effort to produce a library “zine,” or work on your own stuff. With art supplies purchased through a grant from the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation, we draw, write, paint, print, or other . . . creative nonsense. Game Night (YA)(F): First Thursday of every month (1/5, 2/2), 6-8PM. What did we do before video games? Bring in the board game of your choice, or try out the ones from our collection. Bring a friend. Bring a group of friends. Snacks will be provided!!!

Movie and a Pizza Night (YA): Last Thursday of every month (1/26, 2/23), 6-8PM. As the title suggests – come eat some pizza and watch a movie. Come early, and help us decide which film to screen. Don’t forget to check out a book on your way out! Mindfulness Monday (YA): First Monday of every month (1/9, 2/6). Take a moment. Take a breath. A number of mindfulness exercises and activities will be secreted about the library, encouraging any who wish to check-in to how their mind is working, and hit the reset button. Winter Terrarium in a Jar (YA): Thursday, January 19th, 4:30-5:30PM. We’ve watched the season die. By this point, we need a little green in our lives; a little life and growth. In this easy program, we’ll provide all the supplies and instructions you need to make a tiny terrarium in a mason jar. Coffin Craft (YA): Monday, February 20th, 5-6PM. Sure it’s kinda morbid, but it’s also super neat! Use paints and pens and glue-ables to decorate your own tiny 6 X 3 X 1 5/8” coffin. What you do with it once you’re done decorating it is up to you. Limit 10 participants. 1-Hour of Code (C)(YA): Wednesday, February 22nd, 6-7:30PM. Middle School, Young Adult. Learn basic coding, and make mobile app games on your tablet!
