Dear​ ​Southwest​ ​Elementary​ ​Family,

A​ ​couple​ ​of​ ​things​ ​to​ ​remember, when​ ​in​ ​lines​ ​to​ ​drop​ ​off​ ​or​ ​pick up,​ ​to​ ​be​ ​safe​ ​and​ ​efficient. 1. Please​ ​don’t​ ​be​ ​on​ ​your​ ​cell phone 2. We​ ​have​ ​staff​ ​and volunteers​ ​outside​ ​to​ ​direct traffic.​ ​ ​Please​ ​follow​ ​their instructions,​ ​give​ ​‘em​ ​a wave,​ ​and​ ​a​ ​smile. 3. Please​ ​stay​ ​in​ ​your​ ​car​ ​to pick​ ​your​ ​kids​ ​up. 4. Thanks​ ​for​ ​your​ ​patience with​ ​those​ ​that​ ​don’t​ ​follow the​ ​procedures!

We are off to a great start at SW. The kids and teachers are starting to get in a groove. Here are a few reminders as you get into​ ​the​ ​year. 1. HW is expected every night. Use the rule of 10. Take the grade your kid(s) is in and multiply it by 10 to get the number of minutes they should study. Double check their work.​ ​ ​If​ ​you​ ​make​ ​it​ ​important,​ ​they​ ​will​ ​give​ ​their​ ​best. 2. Kids should read or be read to every evening. Make it a family time. Take time in your busy schedule to model reading​ ​for​ ​your​ ​kid(s) 3. Find ways to have your kids use math. Let them measure ingredients or that cut of wood for a project. Have them pay for the concession stand food. Ask them how much it costs and how much change they should get in return. Be creative, but let them use math and they’ll be better off for it. 4. Teach them through their mistakes. Don’t stress if your kid doesn’t get it. Whether it be reading or math, or anything else for that matter, if they are scared to make mistakes, they won’t learn as fast. Sometimes the most learning occurs, and the best teaching opportunities happen, when mistakes​ ​are​ ​made.​ ​ ​Be​ ​ready​ ​to​ ​help​ ​your​ ​kid​ ​grow.

Tenemos​ ​personal​ ​y voluntarios​ ​afuera​ ​para dirigir​ ​el​ ​tráfico.​ ​Por​ ​favor siga​ ​sus​ ​instrucciones,​ ​déles una​ ​ola,​ ​y​ ​una​ ​sonrisa. 3. Estamos a un buen comienzo en SW. Los niños y los maestros están empezando a meterse en un surco. Aquí están algunos recordatorios como​ ​usted​ ​consigue​ ​en​ ​el​ ​año. Se espera HW todas las noches. Utilice la regla de 10. Tome el grado de su hijo (s) y se multiplica por 10 para obtener el número de minutos que deben estudiar. Revise su trabajo.
