Kansas Communities That Care (KCTC) Student Survey  Information for Parents    Overview  The Kansas Communities That Care (KCTC) student survey measures teen substance use, delinquency, and related  problem behaviors. We know that students are influenced by many factors and behavior and attitudes do not  develop in isolation. What happens at home affects youth performance and behavior at school. What happens in our  schools can affect youth attitudes toward the community, and vice versa. It is critical that we look at the whole  picture to determine the most appropriate approaches to focus on prevention efforts. If problem behaviors decrease  in schools and communities, they are better places to learn, grow, and live.    1. Why is this survey important?  The KCTC student survey provides schools with data. This data is used to help districts gauge what is working and  what needs work within their schools. Districts can then look into different programs to address weaknesses or  enhance strengths. Districts can also use the data when seeking funding for programming.    2. Is the information confidential?   The survey is completely anonymous   Students are not asked for their names or other personally identifiable information on the questionnaire    No one can connect any student with his/her responses    School staff do not see any one student’s responses    3. What questions are asked?   The survey is a valuable tool in asking questions to help us understand how students behave, think, and feel  about alcohol, marijuana, and other drug use, bullying and school safety. The survey also includes questions  regarding student‐teacher relationships and student involvement.    4. Who uses the data? What is it for?  There are many community organizations (e.g., United Way, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs, Kansas  Children’s Service League, Communities In Schools, Juvenile Justice Authority, and community coalitions)  counting on annual survey data to apply for grant funding for student and community prevention programming  that will benefit the students.    5. How much time does the survey take from the school day?  The survey will take approximately 50 minutes to complete and will be administered during a single class period.     6. Who pays for the survey?  This survey is funded through the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) and is available at  no  charge to all districts.    7. Kansas Communities That Care (KCTC) Encuesta de Estudiantes   Información Para los Padres   

Resumen  La encuesta de estudiantes de Kansas Communities That Care (KCTC) monitoriza el uso de sustancias dañinas en  adolescentes, la delincuencia y los problemas de comportamiento relacionados. Sabemos que los estudiantes están  influenciados por muchos factores y el comportamiento y las actitudes no se desarrollan de forma aislada. Lo que  sucede en el hogar afecta el rendimiento y el comportamiento de los jóvenes en la escuela. Lo que sucede en  nuestras escuelas puede afectar las actitudes de los jóvenes hacia la comunidad, y viceversa. Es fundamental que  examinemos el panorama completo para determinar los enfoques más apropiados para enfocarnos en los esfuerzos  de prevención. Si los comportamientos problemáticos disminuyen en las escuelas y comunidades, son mejores  lugares para aprender, crecer y vivir.   

1. ¿Por qué es importante esta encuesta?  La encuesta de estudiantes KCTC provee información a las escuelas.  Esta información se utiliza para ayudar a los  distritos a evaluar qué está funcionando y que necesita mejorar dentro de sus escuelas.  Luego, los distritos  pueden examinar diferentes programas para abordar las debilidades o mejorar las fortalezas. Los distritos  también pueden usar los datos cuando buscan financiamiento para la programación.   

2. ¿La información es confidencial?   La encuesta es completamente anónima.   En el cuestionario no se pregunta el nombre de los estudiantes o alguna otra información personal que los  pueda identificar.     Nadie puede relacionar a ningún estudiante con sus respuestas.   El personal de la escuela no ve ninguna de las respuestas de los estudiantes.    

3. ¿Qué preguntas le hacen?   La encuesta es una buena herramienta para ayudarnos a entender cómo los estudiantes perciben cosas tales  como el uso de alcohol, marihuana y otras drogas, abuso entre compañeros (bullying) y la seguridad escolar.  La  encuesta también incluye preguntas sobre las relaciones entre estudiantes y profesores y la participación de los  estudiantes en la escuela.   

4. ¿Quién usa la información?  ¿Para qué se usa?  Hay muchas organizaciones comunitarias (por ejemplo United Way, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Boys & Girls Clubs,  Kansas Children’s Service League, Communities In Schools, Juvenile Justice Authority, y coaliciones comunitarias)   que cuentan con esta información anual de la encuesta  para aplicar o evaluar fondos provenientes de  concesiones que benefician a los estudiantes.   

5. ¿Cuánto tiempo del día de escuela toma la encuesta para ser contestada?  La encuesta toma aproximadamente 50 minutos para completarse y se administra durante el tiempo que dura  una clase.    

6. ¿Quién paga por la encuesta?  La escuela usa fondos que provee Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services (KDADS) y está disponible  sin costo alguno para todos los distritos escolares.
