Island Park School District Francis X. Hegarty Elementary School Dear Parents/Guardians, Anti-Bullying Week is Tuesday, November 13th through Friday, November 16th. The theme this year is “Choose Respect.” This year’s theme aims to teach children that bullying is a behavior choice, and the children can set a positive example by choosing to respect each other. This week, we can all work together to help our children understand how important it is that every child feels respected, valued and included. We ask that you speak with your children about bullying and respectful behavior. Below is the list of this week’s activities. Tuesday, November 13, 2018- All students and faculty are encouraged to wear red, white, and blue to show respect for our service men and women and our country as we begin discussing this week’s theme. A morning announcement regarding anti-bullying week will be made. Wednesday, November 14, 2018- “Odd Socks Day.” This day is designed to be fun! It’s an opportunity for children to express themselves and appreciate individuality, uniqueness and promote self-respect. Teachers are encouraged to join in the fun! Thursday, November 15, 2018- All students and faculty are encouraged to wear blue as a sign of peace and safety. Friday, November 16, 2018- Kids Against Bullying Pledge - Teachers will distribute pledges. Students will review and sign anti-bullying pledges. Have your students take the pledges home to review with their family. Thank you for your ongoing support in making our school a safe place for all!

El tema de este año tiene como objetivo enseñar a los niños que la intimidación es una elección de comportamiento, y los niños pueden dar un ejemplo positivo al elegir respetarse unos a otros. Esta semana, todos podemos trabajar juntos para ayudar a nuestros niños a comprender lo importante que es que cada niño se sienta respetado, valorado e incluido. Le pedimos que hable con sus hijos sobre la intimidación y el comportamiento respetuoso. A continuación se muestra la lista de actividades de esta semana. Martes, 13 de noviembre de 2018: se anima a todos los estudiantes y profesores a vestirse de rojo, blanco y azul para mostrar respeto por nuestros hombres y mujeres de servicio y nuestro país mientras comenzamos a discutir el tema de esta semana. Se hará un anuncio matutino sobre la semana contra el bullying. Miércoles, 14 de noviembre de 2018 - "Día de calcetines impares". ¡Este día está diseñado para ser divertido! Es una oportunidad para que los niños se expresen y aprecien la individualidad, la singularidad y promuevan el respeto propio. ¡Se anima a los maestros a unirse a la diversión! Jueves, 15 de noviembre de 2018: se alienta a todos los estudiantes y profesores a vestirse de azul como un signo de paz y seguridad. Viernes, 16 de noviembre de 2018 - Promesa contra la intimidación de los niños: los maestros distribuirán las promesas. Los estudiantes revisarán y firmarán compromisos contra el acoso escolar.
