Dear 8​th​ Grade Parent(s)/Guardian(s), Fayetteville High School is preparing for our Career and Action Plan (CAP) process. The purpose of CAP is to assist students and parents in planning for each student’s academic future by making careful and appropriate course requests. The CAP process ends with offering the opportunity for an individual student/parent conference so that course requests can be finalized for the 2019-2020 school year. Based on student requests, FHS will address staffing needs and build the master course schedule. The following information is important to your family: 1. The CAP Guide is published on our FHS website in the “CAP” section under the “Explore” tab at ​www.fhs.fayar.net​. As additional CAP information becomes available, our website will be updated. 2. Current eighth grade core teachers are making course placement recommendations for English, Math, and Science and will be discussing these with their students. Parents may view the recommendations through Home Access Center (HAC) beginning February 4​th​. 3. All eighth grade students will be attending a Bulldog Bash at Fayetteville High School. The Bulldog Bash will provide time for your child to reflect on their goals in relationship to academic planning, graduation requirements, elective programs, GPA, and the importance of transcripts. Students will be taking a tour of FHS and will have an opportunity to have their questions answered by a student leader. ​This is a student only event. ○ Ramay​: Monday, February 4​th​ from 8:45-11:45 am (inclement weather makeup day February 11) ○ Woodland​: Tuesday, February 5​th​ from 8:45-11:45 am (inclement weather makeup day February 12) ○ FVA and private school students​ may attend February 4​th​ or 5​th​ from 8:45-11:45 am Ramay and Woodland students will begin and end their day at their assigned junior high as bus transportation will be provided to and from FHS. FVA and private school students will be responsible for their own transportation and will need to report to the Purple Office upon arrival and departure. FHS staff will be visiting Ramay and Woodland in the afternoon of their assigned Bulldog Bash day. Students will receive a copy of the 2019-2020 CAP book. Together, we will begin filling out the FHS Course Request Sheet. 4. Family CAP Information Night will be Wednesday, February 6​th​. ​The inclement weather makeup date will be February 13th. There will be an 8th Grade General Information Session ​scheduled to provide an overview of the CAP process including information on zero hour, advanced placement, block scheduling, advisory, graduation requirements, and academic planning including concurrent and virtual credit options. Eighth grade parents and students are strongly encouraged to bring their CAP book and Course Request Sheet and attend one of the following: ○ 5:30 p.m. in the FHS Performing Arts Center ○ 5:30 p.m. for non-English speakers in the Black Box Theatre High school teachers will be available from 4:30-8:00 p.m. in the cafeteria and atrium to answer curricular questions for core, Advanced Placement, and elective programs. Representatives from Northwest Arkansas Community College (NWACC), Northwest Technical Institute (NWTI), and Fayetteville Virtual Academy (FVA) will also be available at the Family CAP Information Night. Parking is available in front lots south of the building and in the lots north of Bulldog Blvd. 5. Course Request Sheets must be completely filled out with a parent signature and returned to your son/daughters current junior high advisor by February 10th. 6. A ​Family CAP Conference ​is the final step and last opportunity for a parent and student to submit course requests for 2019-2020. Parents may sign up for a CAP conference beginning February 7th by visiting pickatime.com/fayettevillehs. Parents will need to create a separate login for this site as it is not tied to HAC. Since eighth grade students have not been assigned to their high school advisor yet, parents should select a time slot allocated for an “Eighth Grader” in lieu of selecting a teacher by name. ○ Wednesday February 27​th​, 4:30 pm-8:00 p.m., Inclement weather makeup day March 5​th Eighth grade parents and students should report to the Black Box Theatre upon arrival. El propósito del CAP es para asistir a los estudiantes y a los padres en planear el futuro académico de cada estudiante al hacer la solicitud de cursos cuidadosamente y apropiadamente.
