Our Parish Mission Statement The Parish of St. John Bosco is a multi-cultural, multi-lingual Catholic Faith community that proclaims Jesus Christ. In the spirit of St. John Bosco, we do this by being a Home that welcomes all especially the young and the poor; a School that prepares for life through religious, educational and social services; a Parish that evangelizes through Word & Sacrament, Worship and Faith Formation; a Playground where lasting friendship and relationships are formed and developed through recreational and social opportunities

From the Desk of Fr. Pat Who is Saint John Bosco? John Bosco was born on August 16, 1815 in the small Hamlet belonging to Castelnuovo d’Asti, in Piedmont, popularly called “I Becchi”. His father’s death when he was only 2 1/2 helped him empathize with the sorrow of so many orphans for whom he would become a loving father. In his mother Margaret he found an example of a deep Christian, which made a deep impression on his soul. When he was nine years old, he had a dream that was prophetic. He seemed to be in the middle of a crowd of children at play, some of whom were using God’s name in vain and fighting. Young John threw himself at them, hitting and kicking them to stop the blaspheming, but a man appeared before him who said : “Not that way, John—you must win over these friends of yours with kindness and love… I shall give you a Teacher under whose guidance you will be able to become wise, and without whom all wisdom becomes nonsense”. That person was Jesus and the Teacher, the Virgin Mary, under whose guidance he placed his whole life and whom he honored with the title Mary, Help of Christians. This led John to learn to be an acrobat, a magician, a singer and a juggler so as to be able to attract the neighboring children and adults to his gatherings at which the recitation of the rosary and the explanation of Sunday’s homily and the Commandments were his way to help keep them far from sin. Wishing to become a priest and to dedicate himself entirely to the salvation of young people, he would work by day and spend the nights at his books. Finally at the age of twenty, he was able to enter the Seminary in Chieri and be ordained a priest in Turin in 1841, at the age of twenty-six. There he established his work among orphaned or abandoned boys and young adults who were looking for work and were exposed to many dangers to both body and soul. Don Bosco started to gather them together on Sundays, sometimes in a Church, out on a grassy meadow, or in a town square, letting them play and then instructing them in the Catechism. After five years of enormous difficulties he managed to establish and open his first Oratory in the outlying suburb of Valdocco. There the boys found food and a place to sleep. They would study or learn a trade, but above all they learned to love the Lord. To do this, he created the Preventive System of education which employs Reason, Religion, and Loving Kindness in all dealings with the young, thus gaining him their hearts. He enkindled in his boys three devotions: to Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament, to Mary Help of Christians, and to the Pope. Saint Dominic Savio is a shining example of one who lived these to an eminent degree. To ensure continuity of his mission among the young, he founded the Salesians (SDB), the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (Salesian Sisters– FMA) and the Associates of the Salesian Cooperators (ASC). He has left his legacy to these, his sons and daughters, with his mottos: Da mihi animas, cetera tolle (Give me souls and take away the rest) and Make yourself loved and not feared. To spread devotion to Mary Help of Christians and to provide a source of prayerful support for his sons’ and daughters’ mission among the young, he also founded the Association of the Devotees of Mary Help of Christians (ADMA) He died on January 31, 1888, in his simple room at Valdocco, at the age of 72. On Easter Sunday, April 1, 1934, Pope Pius XI proclaimed him a Saint! He is our patron and we ask him today to help us continue his mission in Port Chester/Rye Brook! God bless you

Swymi występami przyciągał do siebie dzieci i dorosłych . W ciagu dnia pracował , a wieczorem dużo czytał. Zapewniło im to jedzenie i miejsce do spania. Uczyli się tam zawodu i miłości do Boga. Dobroduszność i wyrozumiałość pozwoliła Don Bosco zjednać sobie serca tej biednej młodzieży. Starał się zakorzenić w sercach chłopców miłość do Jezusa , uwielbienie Matki Boskiej Wspomożenia Wiernych. John Don Bosco zmarł 31 stycznia 1888 roku. Przeżył 72 lata. W Wielkanoc 1 kwietnia 1934 roku Papież Pius XI ogłosił go świętym.Ponieważ jest on naszym patronem prosimy go dziś o pomoc w kontynuowaniu jego misji w Port Chester i Rye Brook. Z bożym błogosławieństwem .

TO OUR CHILDREN In today’s Gospel, Jesus is teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum. Did you know that Jesus had the authority to teach God’s word and perform miracles! Jesus taught his listeners how to live as children of God and all about the Kingdom of God. When we receive Jesus in the Eucharist (Holy Communion), we remind ourselves that He is always with us, still teaching us! So, open your hearts to receive Jesus in the Eucharist and to see how he is still teaching us how to “Live Like Jesus”! And lastly, remember to share what you have learned through your actions and your words. God Bless You! Questions of the Week: Parents: What can you tell others about Jesus with the most assurance? Children: What is the most important thing you would like others to know about Jesus? What other People have to say about Don Bosco

”What a charming personality! In the Church there are, we might say, some who made a procession of sanctity. I mean to say, if we give credence to their biographers, from the very first they had had a Calendar of saints as a goal. Don Bosco had no time for this, and we can readily believe that if he bcame a saint it was no his fault. It was enought to look him in the face. Even at his pictures one never tires of looking at him. He seems so understanding. One knows immediatly that with him one can act with complete confidence: that everything will be all right. There was no need to force oneself to confess with countenance such as he had. It became a veritable necessity. Looking at him one felt immediatly the need to tell him everything, to confide in him, to profit by this precious moment in which one was again a boy and to ask him whether this blessed communion linking man to man is really Chirst living among us. yes, my son; yes, my dear boy; beginning to be a man; look at this face, look at its goodness and charm. It is the face of a man who could not hel being a saint. And he didi it for you! Then it will not be hard for you to believe in the Love of Christ!” -Paul Claudel----- --------------------------- ------------------------------------ ---‘’These are up-to-date medals and they bear like the likeness of a great soldier: St. John Bosco, whom all the world will continue to call simply: Don Bosco. He was a great subject, an exemplary soldier of Christ, a most honored guard, a most faithul soldier for the Holy church and for what the Heart of the Redeemer and the Heart of the Church hold dear: youth– tomorrow’s future, and for whom he worked so much and in such a special manner. Don Bosco was not only a model of virtue, of perfection, and of priestly ministry, but he was also the soldier and the invincible and indefatigable worker for evry undertaking directed to the good” -Pope Pius XI-

Corpus Christi Holy Rosary School celebrates Catholic schools week:

Learn. Serve. Lead. Succeed.

Please join us for our annual celebration of National Catholic Schools Week, begin-ning Sunday, January 28th. The theme —"Catholic Schools: LEARN. SERVE. LEAD. SUCCEED"— highlights our focus on faith development, academic excellence and dedication to community service. We've planned a variety of events to show how we're doing this as a community at Corpus Christi Holy Rosary School.

Sunday, January 28: Celebrate Your Parish

CCHRS benefits all year long from the religious guidance, prayers and support our parish provides. We start the week by inviting parishioners and community members to our school Open House on Tuesday January 30th that feature our outstanding academic programs, religious education and service opportunities.

Monday January 29: Celebrating Your Community

A central aspect of Catholic education is learning the importance of service to others. When students take part in ser-vice activities they demonstrate the values and faith they gain through their Catholic education and learn how to make the world a better place. Today CCHRS begins our FEEDING our NEIGHBOR food drive to help our Don Bosco food pantry

Tuesday January 30: Celebrating Your Students

Schools celebrate students during National Catholic Schools Week by planning enjoyable and meaningful activities for them and recognizing their accomplishments. They encourage students to reflect on the benefits of Catholic education and how the grounding in faith, knowledge and service it provides will help them throughout their lives. Today CCHRS will participate in a STEM LEGO DAY all across the curriculum.

Wednesday January 31: Celebrating the Nation and Feast of St. John Bosco

On National Appreciation Day for Catholic schools, students, families, educators and other Catholic school supporters communicate the value of Catholic education to government leaders, benefactors and friends. They share the signifi-cant contributions Catholic schools make to the nation and their role in preparing students to be good citizens. CCHRS will have a school mass in honor of Don Bosco and students will celebrate the Friend of the Young with special activities throughout the day.

Thursday February 1: Celebrating Families

Parents, guardians and other family members play a vital role in Catholic education. Not only do they volunteer at the school, they instill values and expectations for academic excellence in their children at home. We acknowledge the role of families in Catholic education and celebrate their contributions to the success of our schools on National Cath-olic Schools Week, and all year long. Today CCHRS celebrates our parents and invite them to our PARENTS AND PASTRIES special event.

Friday February 2: Celebrating Faculty, Staff and Volunteers

Teachers are the backbone of Catholic schools. On this day, schools honor teachers, as well as administrators and staff who support teachers in their important work, and thank the parents, grandparents, alumni, parishioners and school board members who provide volunteer service.
