From the Superintendent It is with pleasure that I serve you as the Interim Superintendent for the 2017-2018 school year. While I approach this appointment with apprehension, I pledge to you a relationship built on trust and respect. My 38 years in public education has hinged on my commitment to student achievement and creating an environment that leads to success for all students. Working together, we can make a difference in the lives of our students. Regardless of your role – parent, school board member, administrator, teacher, or support staff personnel, YOU matter. Beginning today, I want you to know you are appreciated and that I applaud you for choosing PCSSD. Please help me make this school year our best yet. Hopefully, this calendar is a resource for you. In it you will find phone numbers and emails for your school’s administrators, nurses and counselors, as well as central office staff. If any one of us can help you at any time, please contact us. Your schools also have websites, and we encourage you to check those for the latest calendars and news events. You can also get up-to-date information at pcssd.org and on PCSSD’s Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages. As you navigate through a busy school year, my office is available if you have questions, concerns or if you want to share a good news story, I can be reached at 234.2001 or at
[email protected]. Best wishes for a safe and successful school year. Regards,
Dr. Janice Warren Superintendent of Schools

[email protected].
5.
Contact your representative on the PCSSD Board of Eduaction (see the Board of Education Page).
Getting Involved How do I get involved at my child’s school? Educational opportunities inside and outside the classroom are enriched by the many parents, patrons and business people who give so much of themselves as volunteers. These dedicated People Assisting Local Schools (PALS) volunteers provide helping hands, and they are paid in hugs, smiles and the satisfaction of knowing they made a difference in the life of a child. It is easy to participate – whether you can help every day, once a week, once a month or once a year. There are many ways to volunteer: reading to students, helping in a school office, selling tickets at a game, speaking at career day or filling another need. Please talk to the principal or your school’s volunteer coordinator about specific ways to help.
Student Nutrition What’s for lunch? Pulaski County Special School District participates in the National School Breakfast and Lunch Programs sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and is held to a high standard of accountability, good nutrition and safety. Eating breakfast and lunch enables students to be better prepared to learn in the classroom.
Meal Prices Student Breakfast
$1.75
Elementary Student Lunch
$2.75
Secondary Student Lunch
$3.00
Adult or Non-student Breakfast
$2.25
Adult or Non-student Lunch
$3.50
The differences between the adult and student prices are based on the USDA regulations. Students are subsidized for the meals and adults are not. To apply for the free and reduced lunch program go to pcssd.org/meals, visit your school cafeteria or call 501-234-2304.
Charge Policy and Collections Procedure PCSSD must limit the occurrence of charging for meals to no more than three charges to your student’s account in elementary or middle schools and NO charging in high school. Students may charge meals only on occasion when money is unavailable and the student would otherwise have to miss meal service. Money owed from meal charging will be carried to the following year and can be turned over for collections. Further information about charging as well as free and reduced meals can be found in your student handbook.
Food Allergy Policy If your child has a food allergy to any item on the menu, a doctor’s statement is required annually to be filed with the kitchen manager and school nurse stating the student’s allergies to all such foods and the alternate food to be served.
