GOVERNING BOARD CANDIDATE STATEMENT VAIL UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 20

Allison Pratt

My name is Allison Pratt and I am running for the Vail School District Governing Board. I grew up in Conway, Arkansas and attended college at Brigham Young University earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Marriage, Family, and Human Development. After my husband earned his engineering degrees, we moved to Tucson for his job at Raytheon. As we were deciding where to buy a house eleven years ago, we decided to move to Vail for the reputation of the school district. Our four boys attend Vail schools, ranging from kindergarten to 9th grade. We enjoy watching them run cross country, play in the band, and enjoy their school clubs and activities. I’ve had a long history of involvement in my children’s education and volunteering with the school district. As our oldest started school, I served on the PTA board as secretary, treasurer, and then as President for two years. As I was volunteering and spending time at school, my younger boys were my sidekicks. During my service on the PTA board, we raised money for needed supplies to benefit the school including a new digital marquee, a new asphalt track, new iPads, new laptops, new books for the library, and supplies to help support the teachers. In 2014, I was awarded the Volunteer Ambassador of the year for Acacia Elementary School. After my service on the PTA board, I served on Site Council for Esmond Station K-8 School for a year and a half until I applied for and received an appointment to the Governing Board in 2015. As I have been serving as a Vail School District Governing Board member, I have had the wonderful opportunity to attend conferences and trainings to help me understand my role as a board member and help me make better decisions for the school district, earning my Certificate of Orientation from the Arizona School Board Association. I have shown my ability to be a cohesive team member and work cooperatively with other board members and with the district administration. One of the highlights of my year as a board member was attending high school graduations and shaking hands with the graduates after they excitedly walked across the stage. I ask for your vote for Vail School District Governing board because I recognize the ability of the Governing Board to navigate and steer our school district, and I want to be a part of the team that helps guide our district in the direction that is best for Vail’s children. Vail is exceptional at doing more with less as our funding is below the state average, yet our test scores are 60% above state averages. Vail is innovative and creative in finding ways to meet the needs of our children and I’m proud to be a part of this district.

Mi nombre es Allison Pratt y soy candidata para la Junta de Gobierno del Distrito Escolar de Vail. Me crie en Conway, Arkansas y asistí a la universidad en Brigham Young University donde recibí una licenciatura en matrimonio, familia y el desarrollo humano. Después de que mi marido recibió sus licenciaturas en ingeniería, nos mudamos a Tucson para su trabajo en Raytheon. Durante el proceso de decidir dónde comprar casa hace once años, nos decidimos en mudarnos a Vail por la reputación del distrito escolar. Nuestros cuatro hijos asisten a la escuelas de Vail, empezando desde el kínder hasta el 9º grado. Disfrutamos verlos correr a campo traviesa, tocar en la banda y disfrutar los clubes y actividades escolares. Tengo una larga historia de participación en la educación de mis hijos y de voluntaria en el distrito escolar. Cuando nuestro hijo mayor empezó asistir a la escuela, yo serví en el como secretaria, tesorera y presidenta en la mesa de directores de PTA durante dos años. Cuando estaba trabajando como voluntaria y pasando el tiempo en la escuela, mis hijos menores eran mis compañeros. Durante mi servicio en la mesa directiva del PTA recaudamos dinero para suministros necesarios a beneficio de la escuela incluyendo una nueva marquesina digital, una nueva pista de asfalto, nuevos iPads, nuevas computadores portátiles, libros nuevos para la biblioteca, y útiles para apoyar a nuestros maestros. En el 2014, fui premiada como la Embajadora Voluntaria del Año de la Escuela Primaria Acacia. Después de prestar servicio en la mesa directiva del PTA, serví en el consejo de la Escuela Esmond Station K-8 por un año y medio hasta que apliqué y fui nombrada a la Junta de Gobierno del distrito en el 2015. Durante mi servicio como miembro de la Junta de Gobierno del Distrito Escolar del Vail he tenido la gran oportunidad de asistir a conferencias y entrenamientos cuales me ayudan a entender mi papel como miembro de la Junta de Gobierno y ayudarme hacer mejores decisiones para el distrito escolar, ganándome mi Certificado de Orientación de la Asociación de Juntas de Gobierno Escolares de Arizona. He demostrado mi habilidad de ser parte de un equipo cohesivo y de trabajar en cooperación con otros miembros de la Junta de Gobierno y con la administración del distrito. Una de los aspectos más destacados de mi año como miembro de la Junta de Gobierno fue atender a las graduaciones de secundaria y de estrechar la mano con los graduados después de caminar a través del escenario.

Le pedio por su voto para la Junta de Gobierno del Distrito Escolar de Vail porque reconozco la habilidad de la Junta de Gobierno de navegar y dirigir a nuestro distrito escolar, y quiero ser parte del equipo que ayude a nuestro distrito en la mejor dirección para los niños de Vail. Vail es excepcional en poder hacer más con menos cuando nuestros recursos financieros están por debajo del promedio estatal, pero aun así los resultados de nuestras pruebas son por encima del 60% del promedio estatal. Vail es innovador y creativo en buscar la manera de atender a las necesidades de nuestros hijos y estoy orgullosa de ser parte de este distrito.
