THE WORD OF GOD

LA PALABRA DE DIOS

(The first lesson will be read in Spanish / La primera lectura será leída en Español.)

First Reading: Acts 9:1-19 Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?” “Who are you, Lord?” Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,” he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.” The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything. In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!” “Yes, Lord,” he answered. The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on 12

Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.” “Lord,” Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your holy people in Jerusalem. And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.” But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.” Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength.

Psalm 139 vv.1-5, 12-18

(The psalm today will be read responsively by full verse)

1 LORD, you have searched me out and known me; * you know my sitting down and my rising up; you discern my thoughts from afar. 2 You trace my journeys and my resting-places * and are acquainted with all my ways. 3 Indeed, there is not a word on my lips, * but you, O LORD, know it altogether. 4 You press upon me behind and before * and lay your hand upon me. 5 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; * it is so high that I cannot attain to it. 12 For you yourself created my inmost parts; * you knit me together in my mother's womb. 13 I will thank you because I am marvelously made; * your works are wonderful, and I know it well. 14 My body was not hidden from you, * while I was being made in secret and woven in the depths of the earth. 15 Your eyes beheld my limbs, yet unfinished in the womb; all of them were written in your book; * they were fashioned day by day, when as yet there was none of them. 16 How deep I find your thoughts, O God! * how great is the sum of them! 15

THE GOSPEL John 9:1-12 Deacon: The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus according to John. People:

EL EVANGELIO San Juan 9:1-12 Diácono: Santo Evangelio de Nuestro Señor Jesucristo según San Juan. Pueblo:

As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?” “Neither this man nor his parents sinned,” said Jesus, “but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed in him. As long as it is day, we must do the works of him who sent me. Night is coming, when no one can work. While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” After saying this, he spit on the ground, made some mud with the saliva, and put it on the man’s eyes. “Go,” he told him, “wash in the Pool of Siloam” (this word means “Sent”). So the man went and washed, and came home seeing. His neighbors and those who had

Others said, “No, he only looks like him.” But he himself insisted, “I am the man.” “How then were your eyes opened?” they asked. He replied, “The man they call Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. He told me to go to Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and then I could see.” “Where is this man?” they asked him. “I don’t know,” he said.

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER Presider: The Lord be with you. People: And also with you. Presider: Lift up your hearts. People: We lift them to the Lord. Presider: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. People: It is right to give God thanks and praise. Then, the Celebrant proceeds

It is right indeed, ever living God, to give you thanks and praise through Christ your only Son. 19

You are the source of all life and goodness; through your eternal Word you have created all things from the beginning. When we sinned and turned away you called us back to yourself and gave your Son to share our human nature. He made the one perfect sacrifice for the sin of the world. Therefore we proclaim your great and glorious name, singing: “St. Anne's Mass”

SANCTUS & BENEDICTUS

James MacMillan

On the night before he died, he took bread; when he had given you thanks, he broke it, gave it to his disciples, and said: Take, eat, this is my body, which is given for you; do this to remember me. After supper he took the cup; when he had given you thanks, he gave it to them and said: Drink this, all of you, for this is my blood of the new covenant which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins; do this as often as you drink it, to remember me. Therefore loving God, recalling your great goodness to us in Christ, his suffering and death, his resurrection and ascension, and looking for his coming in glory, we celebrate our redemption with this bread of life and this cup of salvation. 19

And so we proclaim the mystery of our faith: Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come in glory. Send your Holy Spirit that these gifts of bread and wine which we receive may be to us the body and blood of Christ, and that we, filled with the Spirit’s grace and power, may be renewed for the service of your kingdom. United in Christ with all who stand before you in earth and heaven, we worship you, O God, in songs of everlasting praise. Blessing, honor and glory be yours, here and everywhere, now and forever. Amen. LORD’S PRAYER

EL PADRENUESTRO

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Can you help sponsor a Chorister for Choir Camp? Each year the choristers begin preparing for the new season at choir camp. It is one week at The Barbara Harris Episcopal Camp and Conference Center in Greenfield, New Hampshire. The choristers area scheduled for 6 hours of music, voice and/or theory lessons followed by the usual camp activities. It is a very important part of the choristers life and experience as an All Saints’ chorister. Traditionally, the church has been able to budget money for scholarships. However, due to budget constraints, there isn’t any money available this year. Can you help sponsor a chorister? The cost to send a chorister to camp is $375.00. Any amount of sponsorship will be gratefully accepted. You can donate by check or cash. Checks should be payable to All Saints and in the memo please write Choir Camp sponsorship.
