THE WORD OF GOD

LA PALABRA DE DIOS

First Lesson: Jeremiah 11:18-20

Primera Lectura: Jeremías 11:18–20

It was the Lord who made it known to me, and I knew; then you showed me their evil deeds. But I was like a gentle lamb led to the slaughter. And I did not know it was against me that they devised schemes, saying, "Let us destroy the tree with its fruit, let us cut him off from the land of the living, so that his name will no longer be remembered!" But you, O Lord of hosts, who judge righteously, who try the heart and the mind let me see your retribution upon them, for to you I have committed my cause.

Hazme ver cómo castigas a esa gente, pues he puesto mi causa en tus manos.

Second Lesson: James 3:13-4:3, 7-8a

Segunda Lectura: Santiago 3:13–4:3, 7–8a

Who is wise and understanding among you? Show by your good life that your works are done with gentleness born of wisdom. But if you have bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not be boastful and false to the truth. Such wisdom does not come down from above, but is earthly, unspiritual, devilish. For where there is envy and selfish ambition, there will also be disorder and wickedness of every kind. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy. And a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace for those who make peace. Those conflicts and disputes among you, where do they come from? Do they not come from your cravings that are at war within you? You want something and do not have it; so you commit murder. And you covet something and cannot obtain it; so you engage in disputes and conflicts. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive,

because you ask wrongly, in order to spend what you get on your pleasures. Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.

Sométanse, pues, a Dios.

Pueblo: Gloria a ti, Cristo Señor.

Jesus and his disciples passed through Galilee. He did not want anyone to know it; for he was teaching his disciples, saying to them, “The Son of Man is to be betrayed into human hands, and they will kill him, and three days after being killed, he will rise again.” But they did not understand what

he was saying and were afraid to ask him. Then they came to Capernaum; and when he was in the house he asked them, “What were you arguing about on the way?” But they were silent, for on the way they had argued with one another who was the greatest. He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.” Then he took a little child and put it among them; and taking it in his arms, he said to them, “Whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me welcomes not me but the one who sent me.”

preguntarle.

NICENE CREED (stand as able)

CREDO NICENO

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.

We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God,

begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.

We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen

“Sing me to heaven”

Daniel Gawthrop (b.1949)

In my heart's sequestered chambers lie truths stripped of poets' gloss Words alone are vain and vacant, and my heart is mute In response to aching silence, memory summons half-heard voices And my soul finds primal eloquence, and wraps me in song If you would comfort me, sing me a lullaby If you would win my heart, sing me a love song If you would mourn me and bring me to God, sing me a requiem, sing me to Heaven Touch in me all love and passion, pain and pleasure Touch in me grief and comfort, love and passion, pain and pleasure Sing me a lullaby, a love song, a requiem Love me, comfort me, bring me to God Sing me a love song, sing me to Heaven (Text: Jane Griner)

EUCHARISTIC PRAYER A

PLEGARIA EUCARÍSTICA A

Celebrante: El Señor sea con ustedes. Pueblo: Y con tu espíritu. Celebrante: Elevemos los corazones. Pueblo: Los elevamos al Señor. Celebrante: Demos gracias a Dios nuestro Señor. Pueblo: Es justo darle gracias y alabanza.

The Celebrant proceeds

El Celebrante continúa:

It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and every-where to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

For you are the source of light and life, you made us in your image, and called us to new life in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

SANCTUS & BENEDICTUS: HYMNAL S-125

12

Holy and gracious God: In your infinite love you made us for yourself, and, when we had fallen into sin and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent Jesus Christ, your only and eternal Son, to share our human nature, to live and die as one of us, to reconcile us to you, the God and Creator of all.

He stretched out his arms upon the cross, and offered himself, in obedience to your will, a perfect sacrifice for the whole world.

On the night he was handed over to suffering and death, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, "Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me."

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, "Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me."

13

Therefore we proclaim the mystery of faith:

The Celebrant continues:

El Celebrante continúa:

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O God, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving. Recalling his death, resurrection, and ascension, we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son, the holy food and drink of new and unending life in him. Sanctify us also that we may faithfully receive this holy Sacrament, and serve you in unity, constancy, and peace; and at the last day bring us with all your saints into the joy of your eternal kingdom.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever.

ANNOUNCEMENTS Taizé – Join us this evening at 5:00pm for an evening service in the style of Taizé, which willinclude music, scripture, meditation, prayer. Taizé worship is contemplative and meditative in character, using songs which, as they are repeated, become like a prayer litany. Using just a few words, the songs express a basic reality of faith, quickly grasped by the mind. As the words are sung over many times, it gives an opportunity for the song to move from your intellect, to your emotions, to your soul—where the words becomes a prayer. Celebration of New Ministry – On Sunday, September 30th at 5:00pm everyone is cordially invited to the joyful celebration of New Ministry of The Reverend Bernard Poppe. Bishop Douglas Fisher will be presiding. A wonderful reception in the courtyard will follow the Eucharist. Guest Preacher – On Sunday, September 30, all are welcome to join us during the 10:00am Choral Eucharist where we will be welcoming The Reverend Canon Chief John Thompson-Quartay as our guest preacher. Blessing of the Animals – In the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, on Sunday, October 7 during the 10:00am Choral Eucharist we will be blessing the animals. All are welcome to gather with their pets, pictures of your pets, or stuffed animals at 9:50am in the courtyard for a special blessing and then proceed into the church for the continuance of the Eucharist. There will be no adult forum or Sunday School/Youth Group on that Sunday. All Saints Dinner Groups – It is time once again to sign up for this fun group. Those who wish to participate will be assigned a group, and each month they will meet at a different member’s home for dinner and great conversation. Each member will take a turn hosting. It is not a regimented, and you meet at the convenience of the group. Sign up today during coffee hour.
