THIS SUNDAY’S MESSAGE My Dear St. Cyprian Family, Reflecting on our Readings this Sunday, we realize that they give us a lesson about faith and hope. These readings offer us an insight into why Christians, despite the challenges of life, do not easily succumb to despair and give up. Perhaps you can resonate with me when I say that life is extremely unpredictable. One day you feel very lucky. Everything seems to be falling into place according to your plans. The next day you wake up finding out that everything is turned upside down. You find yourself in a situation of utter misfortune and helplessness. Sometimes God allows terrible things to happen, things which we do not easily understand. Especially in situations involving sudden death or unexpected disease, whenever I am approached for answers, I always say I wish I have them. The truth is, tragedies are always absurd. They defy human logic and estimation. It is against this realization from common experience, this experience of life’s unpredictability, that the Second Reading makes more sense to us. St Paul tells the Corinthians, “We are always courageous.” We are always hopeful, even if life is unpredictably imperfect. Why? Because “we walk by faith and not by sight”. We who believe in God continue to hope because we trust in God’s assurance. We know that He cares for us and for those whom we love in ways that surpass our capacities and imaginations. Today we celebrate Father’s Day, a day of prayer and Thanksgiving to all fathers. We will be remembering all fathers at a Novena of Masses, a Mass each day for nine days. Father’s Day envelopes are available for you to pick up at the back of church. If you wish us to remember in prayer those special fathers in your life, please write their names on the envelope and return it to the parish office or place it in the collection basket.

Next weekend, we will celebrate all of the graduates at St. Cyprian. If you have someone in your family who is graduating from school (preschool thru college!!), bring them to one of our Masses next weekend for a special blessing.

PRAY FOR THE SICK MUSIC MINISTERS NEEDED We need additional Music Ministers at all of our weekend masses. If you play an instrument, would like to sing, or can help with slides, license reporting or the sound system, please speak to any of our choir members after mass, or contact Colin D'Souza at [email protected]. For the Youth Choir, which sings at the 6 PM Mass on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month, contact Youth Minister Colleen Vandevoorde at [email protected].

Please pray for the sick of our parish: Paul Bringuel, Sumantra, Charlene Rozario & Rita Rozario. If you know of someone who is sick and needs our prayers, please submit their names to the parish office so that they can be included in our prayers.
